Zoo Basel Zoo Basel News

In the Vivarium 4 longnose leopard lizards (Gambelia wislizenii) have replaced the collared lizards. Basel is only the 2nd European zoo (excluding Russia) keeping this species. The animals came from a Swiss private keeper. Also newly kept is a clown triggerfish.

Additionally 2 male golden-bellied capuchins have arrived from la Vallee des Singes, with 2 more males expected from Germany next year. They live in the former spider monkey exhibit, but will move elsewhere in the zoo (unspecified where) once a new spider monkey species arrives in the future. (I really cannot imagine why anyone would still want to keep spider monkeys in that cage, when so many smaller and more appropriate species are available, but well who am I.)

Hello,

I will be visiting the zoo for the first time in about a week from now. If anyone has any tips or advice, I'd be happy to hear it :)

The chance I’m also visiting Zoo Basel in two weeks is also a realistic option, depending on my traveling companions if they also want to see the zoo. What a coincidence.

It will also be my first time at Basel. Is it possible to order tickets at the entrance or not by the way?
