Zoo Brno ZOO Brno

Those peafowl are pure subspecies - Indochinese green peafowl (Pavo muticus imperator) obtained from a bird farm.

According to ZTL, the only other European zoo that keeps this subspecies currently is Bojnice.
Are these the ones obtained from that famous Italian breeder?

At least according link from Jana, leopards are still in their place
(peafowl exhibit should be located "next to ceylonese leopards")

Yup leopards are still signed in that old cage next to the new-ish part of said enclosure (but I haven't seen any)

Can you elaborate on this? I would love to know if and where this private breeder is located in Italy!

I really would like to see more of the subspecies inside North zoos as well as zoos in Indochina (Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, perhaps even Thailand-Burma border areas...).

I can't because I know nothing much other than it exists; a member stated in a thread (can't remember either) that the SSP was present in Europe because of an Italian breeder.

Black kites had 2 chicks in the spring, currently they wait separated to be shipped out.

A young male tawny frogmouth arrived from Planckendael. It´s new species for the zoo. Already on show inside Exotarium house.

Another article in local newspapers that talks about investment plans. What is new, current or got postponed:

- doubling of exhibit area for polar bears (2027)
- upgrade of existing zoo entrance (start in 2025)
- pygmy hippo exclosure planning process (starts 2025)
- rhino and antelope enclosures (just in form of future study project, no dates or funds)
- gelada house (opening 2026)

Source

I really hoped the zoo could open the new gelada enclosure and house in 2025, that got pushed back gain and now they communicate it for 2026. But at least the city is willing to invest into zoo upgrades and new projects, that is positive. It would be nice to get some new attraction for 2025 high season but alas there is nothing in the pipeline if we don´t mention a few education posters.

The wording in the article isn't clear enough. Maybe the plan is still to open the gelada + hyrax outside enclosure this year and the pavilion next year? Because that was still the plan at the beginning of the year.

The female Kamchatka brown bear Irina will be transferred to Děčín, which means there will be only one Kamchatka bear left in Brno (the old female Kamčatka).
It seems like the zoo is going to end breeding this subspecies of bear.
