Zoo Brno ZOO Brno

Two female Père David's deers arrived from Miskolc zoo.
It's been also confirmed that the enclosure for Kamchatka bears will be occupied by polar bears temporarily (which still means years). The current female Cora will be moved there, a new female should arrive later (it is unknown when a where from). The old enclosure should be occupied by a male polar bear (the enclosure is supposed to go through a reconstruction/enlargement first).

Some notable new additions to the collection I saw during yesterday´s visit. (I haven´t seen them mentionted anywhere, but they could be in the zoo for a while.)

- Blue beauty anole (Anolis equestris potior) - Brno is possibly the only public collection to display them in Europe.
- Murray cod (Maccullochella peelii) - According to ZTL, Brno is the only zoo in Europe with this species.
- Black catfish (Neosilurus ater) - Also rare in public collections.

Siberian weasels will be replaced by Aesculapian snakes - it is written next to the enclosure.
Did they write a reason for this decision? Is´t the space available?

While I like these snakes and think they need more popular support for their conservation in Southmoravian region. But siberian weasels seem more popular with visitors and also their zoo breeding program probably needs more holding capacity - not less.

No, they didn't. There used to be just a single animal, so I suppose it either died or someone has decided the enclosure is not very suitable for the species anyway.

Recently uploaded zoo´s reel had more details - two polar bear females will arrive from Germany this summer and join Cora. Two male polar bears will arrive 2026.

The zoo also talks about its wish to breed polar bears. If they get approval from coordinator and some luck, it could get over-crowded soon, I fear.
