[Quetzalcoatlus]

You can read in one no-named web that (I cite) "in 1994 it was a small zoo with its size but large zoo with its madness". One my good friend visited the zoo in 2008 and commented her impressions such as "I have never seen something so terrible". When me with my friend Tara were entering to the park, I was afraid of what to expect inside. In spite of it, I was nicely surprised. All the zoo is not so large. The majority of expositions is modest, but sufficiently spacious. My most terrible imaginations about cramped paddocks for big carnivores did not fullfilled theirselves - tigers, lions and bears had enough space to move over their paddocks. All the zoo looks like moderately. Animals did not seem to me to be incontent. The only point I did not like was the stage of the feathers in Dalmatian Pelicans - I had some doubts about their health stage. During our walking I saw a flag of European Union so maybe the zoo has got some dotation (if yes, it was such a good idea!).

The most interesting species in their collection are for sure Indian Vulture and Cantor's Giant Soft-shelled Turtle which are bred in Europe only here. At the aviaries I saw a board with names for Yellow-billed Duck and Hawaiian Duck but we did not found them anyone. I had some doubts whether I really saw Cape Shoeveler because if yes, this place would be one of three in Europe breeding them.

Overall impression from the zoo is, despite of primary reviews, positive and I can recommend you the visit. Go, Bucureşti, go

There was a famous documentary series in Britain that featured Bucharest Zoo, amongst others, in 1995. The Born Free Foundation was heavily involved so the series had a heavy anti-bias. Despite the rather skewed coverage it did seem that improvements needed to be made. By the photos in your link it seems that things are very much better there now than they were 15 years ago. Then I suppose that can be said about the animal husbandry in many zoos.

How many Pelicans are there in that enclosure? I can't imagine they have been bred there but would like to be proved wrong!

I have been also nicely surprised by the standard of the zoo. I expected something even worse. I hope I did not make a mistake with Indian Vultures but there was an empty cage with their name and after I saw that two birds in the background behind the aviaries for waterfowls.

On the pelicans I have no idea how many they were. The Dalmatians ones were few - no more than five. The rest were Greater White ones. But I was thinking whether some of them can be the handicaps. There were also some pelican teenagers. It seems they reproduct them...
