Both the Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo in Massachusetts are facing possible closure. Budget cuts and monetary restraints have hurt any chance of staying open during the forseeable future. It's difficult to imagine such a major city such as Boston without a zoo:

If only zoos were given the status that they deserve, then there wouldn't be statements regarding the possible killing of 20% of an animal collection. Empty threat, bargaining chip, or serious endeavour? Hopefully the two zoos in the Boston area aren't closed, as there will be a lot of animals that will literally face death.

i love franklin park zoo, i've only visited once on my holiday to boston and it made a really good impression on me (exept the farm). I'm a Brit u see.

Honestly, it sounds like a scare tactic. Today I read that everyone in the Boston area up in arms about this, especially since they are shooting a movie at FPZ. They are already trying to overturn Patrick's veto. I voted for him so this wouldn't happen again (Threat of closer happened a few years back). I believe Zoo New England might even push for extra money to redo both zoos. Considering all the colleges and Bostons reputation for good education its sad we don't have a zoo to go along with it. In the end it wouldn't surprise me if they closed one of the zoos but I think both Stone and FPZ will still be standing with new masterplans ready to be put in effect.
