Zoo collection list's

I/m pretty new to the world of zoo photography and would like to know if anyone out there knows of any web sites that I can visit to allow me to get information on what the zoo's have in there collections.
I've been looking around for about a week and can't find any but then again I'm not very good at using the computer
If you have any tips please let me know and any help with how to take photographs at zoo's will be must gratefully recieved
 
I would say look in the galleries here :D always a good selection!

I do go on a photography site but there animal pictures are usually just the popular animals and gives you no real insight into any zoos and are usually photoshopped to hell :eek: :p some very strange colourings lol :rolleyes:

Look on the Zoos' own websites. Many have a section or heading 'Animals' which gives a complete list of what's in their collection.
 
A little advice
  • be aware of the light and the weather, they make a big difference to the animals and your pictures
  • choose your subject carefully - look for your favourite species and try to photograph active animals
  • if you can't see the animal clearly your camera won't either
  • when you find a good subject, spend time watching it and shoot several shots, you can pick your favourite later
  • watch the foreground and the background as well as the subject, keep them plain if you can
  • be considerate to other zoo visitors
  • break any of these rules if you want, except for the last one below
  • be very careful never to disturb or upset an animal - always be prepared to back off

I have just visited the ISIS website and found to my astonishment that my local zoo Dudley has a Jaguar listed does anyone know where it is as I go there 4/5 times a year and as yet haven't seen it ever

This is more than likely one of the famous Ghost Animals that can be found on ISIS from time to time,i would also check to see what zootierlist says about this,but be warned the U.K section is not as accurate as the other countrys on the site,as somebody keeps updating things with out checking them out first,because the Polar Bear at Edinburgh is listed as been both at Edinburgh and Highland Wildlife Park,they also listed Chester as having Lesser Kudu a species the zoo has never kept!

So register at zootierliste and help keep it acurate. It's a project of zooenthusiasts and so the more people help, the more acurate it gets.

I have but somebody from the U.K is a little bit to keen at updating it before things happen and also believing certain collections website`s about what animals they have got with out checking that the website is correct,I`m slowly going through and correcting things as and when i find them!
