New director of the zoo is Xavier Vaillant who was previously director of Zoo de Lyon.

The male southern cassowary left last january 18th to join Berlin Zoo. He was at the zoo since 19th november 1996 ! He formed a breeding pair with a female since 2010 but failed to fertilize her eggs. Amiens will receive a new young male in a few days to allow breeding.

The ocelot pair is leaving ! The zoo decided to stop presenting this species considering its master plan. The enclosure will be put down and new projects will take shape on place this year and next.
The last of the five ocelot kitten born from the pair (called Kourou) lived during winter for Hemsley Conservation Centre.

We don't know where will go Bellisimo and Coari unfortunately.

Some minor changes in the zoo for the 2024 season (so far):
  • The wreathed hornbills moved into the aviary next to the future entrance, meaning that the
Indian sarus crane moved to another enclosure (on both banks of the little river) next to the main entrance (between red panda and white-handed gibbon)
  • The B&W Ruffed Lemur moved to the "central" primate island.
  • The Bolivian squirell monkeys moved back to their former enclosure.
  • During the tiger's chat, the zoo keeper told us that Pasaï (the Sumatran tiger cub born last year) will probably move before the end of the year (most likely to Denmark, but the transfer is "delayed" because the zoo has to wait for all papers work to be done to send their tigers to the UK). So, I guess Pasaï will move to Aalborg (where they had tiger cubs last year, too).
  • The bush dogs pups are going outside. It was one of their first walks outside the shelter/pre-park area. They are shy, and they only stay out for a few minutes. They are cute.
  • The male red panda is in a different enclosure for the next few weeks. Only the female is left with the otters.
