Another great news : birth of a dusky pademelon

- birth of two red-ruffed lemurs,
- the new tropical house will open in a few days now. It will be home of a family of Phillipine porcupines, Lyles flying foxes and one other not known mammal species + 6 bird species + a reptile species - all from Asia.

The complete species list for this new exhibit :
- 4 Phillipine porcupines,
- 2 Lyle's flying foxes,
- 2 large flying foxes,
- Victoria crowned pigeons,
- Bali mynas,
- Tricolor parrotfinches,
- Stella's lorikeets,
- Black-faced munias,
- crested partridges,
- brown tortoises.

The tortoises are southern brown as they are coming frome Barcelona Zoo who hold this subspecies. Moreover this is a breeding group as there are 1 male and few females.
The Philippine porcupines have a young !
Indira, the female snow leopard born last year, just left the zoo to go to Mulhouse.Other babies in June include:
Two snow leopard cubs were also born on July 2nd to mother Eva and father Dalai. This is their first litter. They have been sexed as a boy and a girl.

Asson received a female Chaco owl (new species) from Spain and will get soon a male.
I wonder if this species does not replace the Verreaux's eagle-owl as the zoo has not so much place to put birds on display ?

The Zoo revealed the new birth of a ocelot kitten last december 13th and it's a male.

I've been planning a trip over to Asson lately, and I was wondering how much seeing everything takes. Would you say it can be done in two-three hours?
Yes it is. The park is small and even if you take some times to see fine species you can go fast in some part (like the white tiger enclosure).
Thanks! I'm actually going to go in fifteen minutes, I'll say what I thought about it soon.

Back from the zoo! Really loved my stay. Saw some species I really wanted to see and really loved the looks of it, stupendous gardening all over the place. I do have some questions though, so I do hope someone can answer them:
- The sitatungas were absent, did not see any of them and the park's map says that the exhibit is now for the pademelons (which is the case), but the sitatunga sign is still up in the pademelon paddock. Is this just temporary housing? Will sitatungas (Excluding Whiskey) be back at the zoo?
- Today was a really hot day and most of the lemurs in the walkthrough exhibit were hiding, and I only saw crowned and ring-tailed lemurs in it. Are there any other species of lemur in this exhibit? Are the black lemurs supposed to be here?
- According to Zootierliste the park houses black tufted-ear marmoset, plaintain squirrel, southern African spiny mouse, and Wonga pigeon, being all lifers for me, but they were not even mentioned by signae, and did not see a single individual or exhibit for them. Any knowledge if the park still has these species?
That being said, I really enjoyed Asson. It has such a lovely animal lineup in simple but aesthetically pleasant exhibits located in a beautiful setting, what more can you ask for? The duikers were a joy to watch on right before the park was about to close (+I saw a recently born calf!), saw some amazing birds that I was really looking forward to, I really wanted to see both the pademelons and philippine porcupines (despite them not being too keen to the camera),... oh, and I also saw a maned wolf try and catch a fly.
A really enjoyable experience, I hope to go back once they bring in anything new.
