Colchester Zoo to appear in new TV programme!
Our animals and keepers are to become stars of the small screen in the coming months. Channel 5 has chosen to focus its cameras on Colchester Zoo for the latest series of Zoo Days which begins transmission in June.

Zoo Days will take viewers behind the scenes to reveal what it takes to run one of the UK’s busiest zoos. There are lots of plans in the pipeline for 2008 including the opening of our state of the art Orang house. The television crews will be following us closely to capture all the action as we gear up for what promises to be another busy year.

Does any know whether they plan to do any other zoo's aswell as Chester and Colchester?

Does this mean that zoo days wont be back at Chester, thats a shame. I'd like to see Zoo Days next at Marwell or Edinburgh if they change zoo every series

The new series of Zoo Days (Chester) is on Five every weekday at 6.30pm from Monday 3rd March.

I may be wrong but I thought the new series started the 10th... i thought the episode listing for monday was Tejas cant walk and needs splints...

Probably my dodgy eyes lol

So has anyone been watching the new series?

And what do people think?

Cholchester certainly looks an interesting zoo, that I would like to visit.

Have been watching indeed. It seems Zola may be the Colchester version of Tejas and be in most episodes, but i think that would be a good thing she's a very interesting animal.
The Rocky Mountain Goats tonight were interesting tonight as were the Aarvarks, in the fact i think this episode was a lot better than yesterday. Hopefully a few birds and less major animals will be shown aswel as the Elephants, Rhinos and Lions and so onwards. Konniw Huq is very annoying though, will someone tell me the point of why she is there.

Yes todays episode was much better than yesterdays.

Konniw Huq - wasn't she on blue peter? I find i strange they need to show her a few times a program, whats wrong with the good old voice over so we can see more time of the interesting animals.

It is also quite keeper orientated with them exlaining the background of them and their qualifications!

Shame even if Zola is an interesting animal that the ending will not be a happy one, considering she lost the baby (Am sure I read that somewhere)

I agree we should have the voiceover instead of them showing her every now and then. Its actually Konnie Huq, just that i was typing too quickly.

Such a shame that she loses the baby in the end.

Will they be repeating the episodes as i would love to see the rocky mountain goat, what is their enclosure like is it very naturalistic?

I think the rocky mountain goats are kept in the children's farm area. They have maybe an earth mound but there isn't really any appropriate landscaping .

Am sure they will be repeated at some stage. Channel 5 really do like their half an hour animal time slot, so much that I think I have seen the first two series (based at chester) twice!

I can't make up my mind about this exhibit. It's not very big - a grass and concrete hill in an oval shape, right next to the children's play area. That sounds terrible: but it's almost surrounded by a high evergreen hedge, which is only open at one end and cut lower at the other, so it gives the animals a fair degree of privacy in a very airy and open exhibit. It's not pretty, but it does seem to suit them.

I have always like aardvarks but now I am totally smitten! The series is very repetitive like the previous ones but it does show a lot behind the scenes.

There are going to be two more series at Chester.

Another good episode tonight. I do wish though we could have just one episode which does no have the elephants in it. Colchester has plenty of other animals aswell.

Zola, is getting a lot of air time but then so many other drama queens do aswell :p

Am hoping to visit this summer, so am watching intently for things I know I will want to see. However they seem to be drawing out the stories there, much like they did with Chester.

Remember it's Five we're talking about so production values are not going to be that good. If the endless trailing/recapping was edited out then they could have a weekly one hour show but that wouldn't fill the schedule. I don't think Zola is that much of a story but obviously they are trying to extract/inject drama into the situation. Don't blame her for the producers' anthropomorphism :)
