Shaboola the 45 year old female white rhino has sadly passed away. She was the first white rhino to be born in Canada at the Toronto Zoo. She was the oldest rhino in Canada and the third oldest in North America
Zoo de Granby
It was somehow to be expected that their elderly female white rhino would pass over eventually. She lived to a ripe old age, yet had in later years and quite recently a good number of age-related health issues and the vet/keeper/curating team eventually made the hard decision to allow her humane euthanasia.

Shaboola lived a beautiful life at the Zoo Granby, the decision to put her down was the best for her, she didn't have to suffer from health issues anymore.
In this CBC article, in the end they say that Zoo Granby will bring 0.2 white rhinos from an accredited institution from the US as soon as spring.

The zoo is asking us to name the baby sloth born on January 27, 2025. The names are Luz, Paz and Nuqui.

The baby sloth has been named Paz meaning Peace in Spanish.

Other news: The zoo strike has been resolved. An agreement in principle has been made between the Zoo and its employees.

Paz the baby sloth has sadly passed away. He was found dead last week of Saturday in his exhibit. The Zoo do not know the cause of death of Paz.

Other news: 99% of the zoo staff has accepted the agreement in principle.

Two black lemurs arrived at the Zoo. The female named Ziggy came from the San Antonio Zoo, and the male Ripley came from the Duke Lemur Center. The Zoo suspects they have mated already a few times. They will be introduced to the two current ring-tailed lemurs. This is exciting news since I thought this importation was dropped. Zoo Granby applied to import them in 2023, nearly two years ago. Hopefully, Zoo Granby's program will be successful.

Two female animals have arrived at the Zoo. The Zoo is asking us to guess. My guess would be the two female white rhino who are coming from the US in Spring (mentioned in the CBC article). I am not 100% certain but I think it is them.

For you all a guess, for me it was a given know. They are the 2 female rhinos exported from San Diego WAP (see a particular other thread in the North Americas' section). This import will allow Granby to take on the role of a potential breeder of white rhinos. Toronto MZ ... prepare to have some competition and/or potential for future cooperative management in Canada.

Great, I hope there will be breeding success at the Zoo Granby.
In other news, the Zoo announced that one of its female dholes was euthanized due to respiratory problems. The Zoo discovered that there was a cancerous cell near the lungs. The Zoo made the decision to euthanize her to end her suffering. But the Zoo didn't announce who the dhole that passed away was, so we do not know. The group is now down to 2.4 individuals. Hopefully there will be more success with breeding.
Here is the reply in the comments from the Zoo(Translated)
You are correct: the dhole pack previously consisted of seven individuals, two males and five females. During a routine checkup, one of the females, who was showing signs of respiratory problems, was examined more closely. A large cancerous mass near her lungs was unfortunately detected. To avoid unnecessary suffering and respect her well-being, our veterinary team made the difficult decision to euthanize her. Thank you for your interest and concern for our animals.

The Zoo announced the arrival of Hazina and Alice, both four-year-olds from the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park. They arrived at the Zoo Granby on April 17. They are recommended to breed with the male rhino, KC. They are already viewable to the public. This is so exciting since the Zoo Granby can now participate in the breeding program.

There will be more opportunities for breeding and exchange within Canada even.

BTW: I do hope at some point that African Lion Safari in Canada rejuvenates their herd en gets on board with the newer herd management of white rhino and not make the failure management decision to raise white rhino in siblings stats so they will never breed (which incidentally none of their wild caught cows ... have.

As I mentioned here, Lua, the female jaguar, will be moving to the Brevard Zoo. The Zoo did a veterinarian check on her, confirming that she can move to the Brevard Zoo. The Zoo also mentioned in the comments that her sister Estrella will be moving late summer to another Zoo(Los Angeles Zoo, as mentioned in other threads). They plan on breeding Kuwan and Taima, their parents, again after the sisters leave.
