Toronto Zoo Zoo Foundation Dissolved

It is a shocking move, especially considring that the Toronto Zoo badly needs to overhaul at least half of the zoo. The majority of the large exhibits and pavilions are over 30 years old, and it shows as many sections of the zoo appear to be quite outdated. There is a reason that $250 million is needed to refresh this zoo...
 
Hopefully they hire those "skilled" fundraisers soon!
 
It is a sad situation that the Zoo Board and the Foundation could not resolve any problems before it came to this.
We first went to the zoo 30 years ago and saw it mature and develop as the years went by. Many new features were added and the entrance fee grew beyond what an average young family can afford more once or twice a year. Memberships are well worth having if you are going on a regular basis as we did for many years.
I truly hope the administration will look back 30 years when things were simpler and the animals were the main emphasis at the zoo and learn from it. :)

The issue seems to be the campaign, everyday maintenance and salaries of zoo staff are not usually paid from the money raised by a foundation. That is usually for the redevelopment beyond the day to day running. Maybe someone is familiar with how the Zoo budget is established and where it comes from besides the City of Toronto.:)
 
I do know some comes from privite doners, large corperations and different products sold can go towards the funds, and public people for the most part donate as well.
 
I was wondering about the Zoo Board budget. I think as you say sales from the shops, entrance fees help support the zoo salaries and animal care and they also have money from the City. Knowing how much the City is in the red I doubt whether they will be able to support the zoo with more dollars.
Fund raising is getting harder and the amount the zoo needs for the redevelopment is a lot of money unless a miracle donor comes forward.:)
 
Oo sorry I thaught you were asking how the zoo gets funds for redevelopment. But yea, zoo shops, admission, zoomobile, rides, and maybe stingray bay?!
