Zoologická Zahrada Jihlava ZOO Jihlava news

Recently a male Nile lechwe (Kobus megaceros) arrived from Zoo Zlin on recommendation of the EEP breeding program coordinator. I am not 100% sure whether they received 1 or multiple males, could someone confirm this?

Jihlava has maintained a breeding herd since early 2010's. You have to interpret the Czech in the singular as far as male(s) is concerned. Effectively, the zoo has received a new breeding male (as Zlin holds the species too).

The cat house has been opened to visitors again. Sri Lankan leopard pair Manny (14, born at Jihlava) and Aruni (4, from Brno) have a litter of 2 cubs circa 3 weeks old, unsexed. The mother is calm and cubs started to leave their box and so visitors are allowed in again.

Summer baby boom:

- lowland tapirs have another baby - a female born on 24th July. Parents are Vanesa (born Jihlava 2002) and Venoušek (born Nürnberg 2003).
- caracal tripplets born in June
- Greater flamingos have 10 chicks
- 3 ring-tailed lemurs
- one Blue tree monitor
- several North African ocellated lizards (Timon pater), Tanimbar blue tongue skinks and a Prehensile-tailed skink.
