Zoologická Zahrada Jihlava ZOO Jihlava news

Just found strategy of zoo from november... and wow... quite impressive, maybe even too much ambitious?
At least, there are (finally!) new expositions for tigers and eventually other cats, who leave their old house - hope that at least this part will be realised (dtto pygmy hippo)

Can you attach it here?

Excuse me, will there be new animals this year?
Jihlava adds some new species each year so it would be surprising if it would differ in 2022. However I haven´t seen any new announcements lately.

New species obtained already last year but not mentioned in this thread is Eastern wallaroo.

And if I would speculate I would say lowland paca (newly added taxon on their HP but not announced yet). Maybe blue duiker - their arrival was planned for year 2021 but it haven´t materialise yet.

Arg, blue duiker ?! I hope not just for one reason : if Jihlava receive them Branfere will not (they planned to have them for the new okapi exhibit) as there are few available and only from Asson.
Please note that I have nothing against Jilhava which is a great place for zoonerds (even if the zoo is too far small) ;)

Well their attempts to get duikers actually date far back before the pandemic and IIRC, there was even some pre-agreement with Asson... :P But maybe they changed their mind species-wise, or they will put in that exhibit just dik-diks we'll have to wait and see.

Colchester breeds the species too!
Not as often as Asson and you know like me that there are really few animals left in Europe now.

Don't fired me but I prefer seeing duiker in Branfere where they will get something like one hectare in a woodland (of course they will be hard to spot).
