Zoo Leipzig Zoo Leipzig news 2015

Female Black rhinoceros SAMIA (born 2013 to NDUGU and NANDI) was shipped to Osaka in Japan today.

Male Przewalki's horse was born, four years old female RABEA is going to be shipped to a National Park in Mongolia next month.

Male Eastern black rhinoceros NDUGU returned from Hannover Zoo.

Three Taiga musk deer and two Pygmy slow loris were born, four Spotted pond turtles hatched at the terrarium.

Quite pleased about the Musk Deer news, as this taxon is hanging on in Europe by the skin of its teeth! Any successful breeding is a damn good thing in my opinion.

The "Bear-Castle", built in 1929, has been reopened as a great playground illustrating the evolution of the vertebrate in 6 sections.

The old bear cages backstage were refurbished. The visitors are allowed to run through the subterrestrial galleries as part of a "time-tunnel". The zoo is using this space to inform about the long history of bear husbandry at the zoo in terms of boards and posters.
