Great news! Asian elephant cows Thuza and Pantha are pregnant! The calves will be born in 2022/2023. I hope that after a long bad luck, the zoo will finally have two surviving calves.

Don Chung the Asian elephant is set to move from Leipzig to Cottbus to live with Sundali

"The Tierpark Cottbus is getting a new elephant!
Don Chung the elephant lady is coming to Cottbus! The Leipzig Zoo announced this in a press release. Don Chung had no connection with the other elephants in Leipzig...
Reason to be happy for Sundali as she has been living alone at the Cottbuser Zoo since the end of 2020.

We are also happy & already say: Welcome to Cottbus!"

In july 2021 sloth twins were born in Gondwanaland, unfortunately they did not survive.

This was the first breeding at the zoo since 1929 (first successful breeding at a german zoo).

Three giant otters were born in Zoo Leipzig on the 17th of March. The parents are Tacutu and Emila. Unfortunately, Tacutu died at the beginning of the year. Because of this, Emila will have to raise the cubs herself, although she gets help from the older cubs who still live in Leipzig.
