Zoo Leipzig Zoo Leipzig News 2023

@aramacao
The "Terrarium" is under construction since 2022, I don't expect an opening in 2024.

No further news known (to me) concering the "Islands-exhibit".

I wonder if it was really impossible to find a seal species that would fit better to this upcoming exhibit. Californian sea lions in Tierra del Fuego - great how Zoo Leipzig teaches its visitors in zoo-geography (Attention: irony). And it doesn't makes it better that other zoos are doing the same...

The sole reason seems that they want to do shows and Californians can easily be trained. It is a bit atypical for Leipzig to settle for the most common species available and disappointing indeed.

@lintworm: Hmh, I thought the problem was based because of health problems (tuberculosis) within the stock of South American Sea Lions (Otaria byronia) in European zoos at first, but I'm not up to date here.
However, I'm a little confused by your argument. I've had the impression that O.b. could be trained as "easily" as Z. c., and did not noticed any ability differences in shows.

I'm visiting the zoo this weekend for the first time. Are there any tips or stuff that can easily be missed.
