Zoo Membership VS. Annual Ticket.

I often observe a considerable degree of confusion when the term "Zoo Membership" is employed. Membership used to have certain implications such as voting rights and indeed the right to be elected too Zoo Council & Presidency. There was a very fixed set of rights and obligations. With time, the term has often come to be used as a synonym for a mere annual pass for visiting the zoo and a subscription to the newsletter, with perhaps an invitation to certain events.Which zoos are still offering voting rights as part of the package?I feel it important to make a distinction between real "Membership" and the diluted version.Am I just old-fashioned?

Chester's members are still members in the fullest sense and vote for the members of the zoo council; who in turn appoint senior staff at the zoo. I say the members vote - I suspect the majority do not bother, but they have the right.

Marwell has gone the way of an Annual Pass rather than the Marwell Zoological Society, in order to make it more open. Unfortunately this means no more regular society meetings (just a few talks each year) and in my opinion a more 'tabloid' newsletter.

The zoos here in Mexico city are free , which is probably the best thing about the city , sorry i just thought id mention this thing

I became a member of Marwell Zoological Society in 1987. I was incensed when the membership was swept away a couple of years ago in favour of the annual pass scheme. I voted against merging the Society and the Trust and, in fact, I almost ceased to continue my support when exactly that happened. I do not want to be an annual pass-holder, I want to be a member of a zoological society. Marwell will never again mean as much to me as it once did.

I bought my first zoo membership last year and in my opinion theres little benefit of being a member but I think there should be more stuff added with it.
