Zoo Miami Zoo Miami 2016

So if you couldn't tell by now, I'll soon be visiting Zoo Miami within a week and a half or so...:p
Anyhow, as I probably won't have much access to zoochat on the trip, I was wondering if anyone had any pointers for me or want me to look out for anything for them(I'll be there for around four hours).

PS-When I come back I may do a review

Hi savethelephant

Yes I have (both, recommendations and questions).

- First, 4 hours to visit Zoo Miami isn't a lot of time, so prepare to run, because the walkways/distances between the exhibits at Zoo Miami are long (and I mean long).

- Look for the Asian Black Bear (if it is still alive). This species becomes rarer and rarer in zoos in the US and Europe.

- Look for coupons/discounts in brochures at the airport/car rental station/internet to safe money for the entrance ticket.

- Could you check the construction progress of "Mission Everglades" (with pictures here please) and any news about the precise opening date, ALL the animals that will be exhibited there as well as WHY THEY RENOUNCE TO EXHIBIT MANATEES.

- Please check, if there are still Koalas AND Matschie's Tree Kangaroos there.

- Please ask, if there are any plans to get more African and/or Asian Elephants to start breeding.

Thank you very much in advance.

Does anyone know what the deal is on the black bear/sloth bear switch? Going this week, and would love to know what times they are in that exhibit. Thanks

Actually when I went back in January it said the black bear was off-exhibit until Everglades open and there was (I think) no information

Visit today and yesterday, and found out the following:

- The zoo no longer has sun bears or sloth bears. The old sloth bear enclosure now has 2 black bears that were active all day.

- African Elephant enclosure is under construction.

Really liked the zoo, really good for photography, although a lot is on rotation! Heard they have 2 lots of lions (a small pride, and 2 males), 3 jaguars, 2 clouded leopards, 3 tigers (male, female and cub) that all seemed to rotate as the day went on!

Just for clarification, though you may have already gone, the zoo currently doesn't have any sloth bears. The black bears are on exhibit all day, and will eventually be going to Florida when it is completed.

Any idea where the Sun Bears went? It seems quite a few zoos are going out of the species which is worrisome.

Nooooooooo I love sun bears! If they are on the list then why did Saint Louis build a state-of-the-art new exhibit for them only two years ago?
