The American crocodiles have settled in "very" well......
December 21st not only marked the beginning of winter, it also marked the beginning of these 2 very precious lives at Zoo Miami!
First, we welcomed a female Giant Eland, the eighth born at Zoo Miami. Weighing in at a healthy 60 pounds, she is being well taken care of by her mother and is already out on exhibit for you to see.
Next, we welcomed the first Giant Anteater birth in the history of the zoo! The newborn has not had a neonatal exam yet, so the sex and weight are still unknown. But initial indications are that the baby is healthy and successfully nursing under her mother's outstanding care. It will be several weeks, however, before the Giant Anteater baby will be exhibited to the public to insure it is well bonded with its mother and progressing normally.
