I got a migraine reading those insanely stupid comments. The tour was originally just to show the kiwi to people until they finished his permament habitat. I hope Zoo Miami doesn't cave and goes through with the public habitat. Kiwi are so few in the US and admittedly this is the only kiwi I can see easily so I am more invested in trying to keep Paora in Zoo Miami. In any case, I hope this blows over faster than Memphis zoo's sitaution with LeLe.
Look, I am not a big fan of how NZ is so conservative with its natural resources that some Kiwis (not all of them) go as low as performing outright cruelty to animals. But I think your statement is taking it too far. There’s also the fact that this encounter could have bothered a nocturnal animal and compromised its welfare. I am sure the zoo may give Paora the “freedom to choose” to participate this encounter and maybe cancel the event if Paora doesn’t feel like participating or if he is sick. But I just think that a visitor encounter is a bit too risky to do with a Kiwi.
