ZooMontana Zoo Montana - News

I just uploaded 60 photos of Zoo Montana into the gallery.
 
Phillips 66 started construction on a new wolverine exhibit. I'm personally very happy to hear this news as, given my ZooChat name Wild wolverine, I like wolverines and am happy when I hear more are coming to the United States since only a small handful of zoos here still have them. In 2012, the zoo sent its last wolverine to the Minnesota Zoo.
The new habitat will be located near the junction in the zoo’s central area that leads to either the wolf or tiger exhibits. According to the zoo's Facebook page, the exhibit should be open this summer!
 
Two new Wolverines, Ahmari from Finland and Sid of Sweden have arrived at the zoo. They will go on exhibit in May.
 
I presume these new wolverines will no doubt be of the European subspecies then?

Correct. Wolverines are managed at the subspecies level in Europe. The TAG has recommended that the AZA population be "restarted" via imports from Europe, since native founders are only available infrequently.
 
The zoo has begun construction of a future bison exhibit.
It seems like ZooMontana is really hustling to get its AZA accreditation back. Or if not, they're simply improving a lot and building new exhibits recently!

Seriously, bison? You can go two hours south and see them wild in Yellowstone. Why won't they get something you can't see in the wild in the area?
 
I seem to have touched some nerves on here. I'm not against keeping native animals (I like the purebred bison idea) but it seems that's all they focus on. Why not attempt to get something more exotic?

Well I presume that most people in this area of Montana are in fact going to Yellowstone as that is by far the premier attraction in all of Montana (it got over 4 million visitors in 2017). I do agree with the fact that they should keep bison but seeing as they have some Asian animals, they could've added a species of Asian hoofstock.
 
The zoo has welcomed a new American Badger named Uki. She's at the zoo due to human imprinting, and will be living in the old beaver exhibit after a small remodel of the exhibit.
... Also apparently the zoo doesn't have beavers anymore. Not sure when that happened?
