New pair of Giant panda arriving next week:

Malaysia to receive new pair of giant pandas next week under 10-year deal

Malaysia is set to receive a new pair of giant pandas in mid-November, Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said today.

He told the Dewan Rakyat that the panda loan project between Malaysia and China will continue under a new 10-year agreement signed on April 16 during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia, The Star reported.

“This renewed agreement allows Malaysia to receive a younger pair of giant pandas for the period between 2025 and 2035,” Huang said when winding up his ministry’s Budget 2026 debate.

I returned from my Malaysia/Singapore trip yesterday. My days in Singapore were zoo-focused, but my time in Malaysia wasn't - I only visited zoo Negara and the Kuala Lumpur Bird park.

I visited Zoo Negara on my second day in Malaysia, and had a really fun day.
There are still a few poor parts in this zoo (hippos, some monkey cages, some carnivore enclosures) but overall, it's not a bad zoo (unlike the one in Nicaragua I visited last year, or the now-closed Dusit Zoo in Bangkok I visited in 2012)
I got to see my first greater mousedeer and Storms stork (got to see the latter in the wild just a few days later!).
I also saw a bunch of wildlife on the zoo grounds, including no less than 4 species of monkeys!

Since @snowleopard already covered this zoo in his reports recently, I won't be doing one myself, but I will probably upload some footage to the gallery eventually.

Saw a convoy with Perhililitan truck after dusk today. There’s a small animal box at the back of the truck, probably fit for civet-sized animals

Any idea if it’s a new animal being brought in or current animal being taken out for medical reasons?

Zoo Negara usually does not announce any latest
news of animals going in and out of the zoo recently. The exceptions will be Giant Pandas or other animals with public attention.

The zoo acts as a center for rescued wild animals, so it could be a rescued small animal carried in to the zoo.

I would love to know which species of primates you could see wild on the zoo grounds!
Any further observations from you????

You can see White Thighed Surili and Dusky Langur, which hang out near the cassowary exhibit/bridge near the tapirs, and also long tailed macaques which I tend to see near the orangutan enclosure on the Africa walkway as you walk towards the end.
