Thanks for the news betsy. Glad the LA Zoo will have a hippo again!
On the link it says the zoo will have another lion exhibit built?
Good, their current one is terrible. Nice species list, hopefully it won't get cut down and just feature the big ticket items like Outback.
What got cut out of Outback? Other than--for now--the elusive Tassie devils?
I live the species slated for the exhibit but theres one thing I dont get, how do you spend 50 million dollars and 10 percent of the zoos land on a exhibit without a ABC species. I think that there is much more species to come but have not been announced. Please have a few hoofstock in there too.
Its a canyon where the slope averages at about 20%. That's where there 50 million is going to, and probably a ton of mock rock. I am quite happy with the species list actually. Because they don't have a big-ticket item, they will have to have some really good story-telling and design to make this exhibit popular. It sounds like the exhibit is going to follow some zoogeography as it is possible that they'll talk about different zones in Africa.
Echdinas and ring tailed possums. Kiwi was cut really early on too.
Also link to the new Africa Rocks webpage. There is also no mention of Leopards and Lions anywhere.

So they are replacing their entire cat area with primates and birds (and no cats)?
I guess there really is no reason for me to ever return to San Diego.

Snow leopards and Amur leopards are getting new exhibits in Panda Trek. Their is already another jaguar exhibit in Elephant Odyssey. That just leaves Siberian lynx and puma, neither of which fit the Africa theme, and no other announced plans for new exhibits. That's a loss of two.
Also this is nowhere near a complete species list, it says there will be fifty species. I'm sure they will announce more in the future.
