I spend hours on zoo tycoon 2, I often lose track of time and stay up far too late. I found some great downloads for fences and plants which make it more realistic. At the moment I'm working on a Pacific north-western ispired zoo.
it's so good to hear I wasn't the only kid completely obsessed with drawing, building and designing zoos. Apparently when I first went to scool, my first question when we could play with toys was 'where are the animals?'
 
I forgot to say that I have also spent ages working on a plan of Hampstead Heath in North London as a zoo. it's huge and I spent ages looking through flickr for pictures which could have been taken at 'my' zoo - lots from Woodland Park Zoo actually - as well as making maps and figuring out geographic zones. The good thing is that the Heath is so wild that in many places you can just walk along and it's easy to imagine the animals being there.
 
I'm also obsessed with zoos, but the closest I've been to making my own zoo was on Zoo tycoon. I've tried drawing my own exhibits, but then I get frustrated with the fact that I'm not a good drawer.
 
Wow, everyone on THIS thread needs to get the book that I obsessed over when I was a kid! It's called How to Make a Miniature Zoo by Vinson Brown. It was first written in 1956, so quite a few of the ideas in it are out-of-date, but it's still fun to read. When I was a child (in the 1960s and early 70s), I digested this book! The last printing of it was in 1987, so it's out of print now, but still available on Amazon. Enjoy!
 
I used to have that book! I don't any more seeing as I read it so much when I was a child that it sort of fell to pieces. In the case of this book, the miniature zoo is with live animals. (Something I did to an extent through my teenage years, big herp collector) but the book was just lots of fun to read.
