Chester Zoo Zoo project

I think the projected completion date of everything used to be 2020, as the guidebooks from the early 2000's/late 90's mentioned the superzoo as "2020 vision".

Whether that remains the same in the current economic climate is doubtful, I guess...

How did I forget that, that is the date mentioned for overall completion.

wow that is a long time to wait, i thought that the aqaurium was due to open next year?

They don't even know where the new aquarium is going to be built.

The existing boat ride used to have stops for people to get on and off, but since the first stop was opposite the otter fountain, it was not really of much use, (and probably quicker to walk). Other stops were at the far end by the jaguars, and the area now occupied by the gentle lemur shed.

Boat rides? By 2020 I expect nothing less than personalised, solar-powered jetpacks (or snowmobiles during the frost fair months). But cable cars travelling through a biodome seem daft to me

thats a true comment, maybe the plan will get updates as new technology arrives

Of what will phase two of the ROTRA consist? Is Phase One generally viewed as having been a success, from a viewing and / or animal and / or keeping perspective?

From people I have spoke to, Phase 1 is seen as a huge success, the Orangs are more active and the keepers seem to like the new enclosure.

Phae 2 will be a near mirror image of phase 1 (replacing the old Orang quarters) and will be used for Borneans.

Phase 1 will mirror the three indoor enclosures, that the sumatrans already use.

They are generally more active, even the Bornean Orangutans have been more active on the occasions when it was firts open and they used the netted enlcosures

This project is at present on hold for the forseeable future, due to the current economic climate.
