At the end of March female Goodfellow's Tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus goodfellowi buergersi) Kopi arrived from Zoo Krefeld. This is part of a partner swap between 3 zoos (Krefeld, Rostock and Frankfurt) to create 3 new breeding pairs!

The two hutias that were born earlier this year have been sexed, they are two males.

On the 10th of June a male Rocky Mountain wapiti (Cervus canadensis nelsoni) was born.

In April 3 male White-nosed coatis (Nasua narica) arrived from Opel Zoo (*05/2022), they are a new species for the zoo. They were kept in the Südamerika-Haus but have recently been moved to the new red panda enclosure. This enclosure is currently empty and the red pandas are expected to arrive next year.

Das Weibchen legt in eine geeignete Baumhöhle zwischen 6 und 12 Eier und nach etwa einem Monat schlüpfen die Küken. Beide ziehen die Küken gemeinsam auf. Das Gefieder der Jungen ist zunächst nicht wasserabweisend. Daher reiben die Jungtiere sich an den Federn der Eltern, um so ihr Gefieder einzufetten. Die Küken leben in der Sichlervoliere in einer WG u.a. mit Roten Sichlern und Rosa Löfflern. In August a male and a female Sumatran Prevost's squirrel (Callosciurus prevostii rafflesi) were born.

In August 2 female Himalayan tahrs (Hemitragus jemlahicus) arrived from Tierpark Hagenbeck, in September a male arrived from Wildpark Lüneburger Heide. This is a new species for Zoo Rostock, they can be found in the former mountain goat enclosure.

In September a female Common ostrich (Struthio camelus) arrived from Serengetipark Hodenhagen, later two more females will join here.

In September 2.4 Red-crested pochards (Netta rufina) and pair of Chiloe wigeons (Mareca sibilatrix) arrived at the zoo. Both species are new for the zoo.
