Earlier this month male South African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus) Cash arrived from Zoo Gdansk.

On the 14th of March a female bactrian camel was born.

At the start of this month a new species arrived at the zoo, namely a pair of Chinese spotted doves (Streptopelia chinensis chinensis) which came from Tierpark Berlin.

Last month a new species was put on show, namely Fantastic poison dart frogs (Ranitomeya fantastica). They had been in the zoo since 2023, but are now visible to the public.

I visited Zoo Rostock. The Polar bears looked great and happy. They played a lot.
The great apes were mostly indoors. The Darwineum is huge and gives space for them.
The seal area is under building and it goes well.

The zoo is planning to build a new Africa area too and they want to keep there Giraffes and African elephants.

- I visited Zoo Rostock. The Polar bears(Lilli, Noria, Sizzel, Kaja & Skadi) looked great and happy. They are in good shape and they played a lot. The zoo doesn't keep male Polar bear at the moment.
- The great apes were mostly indoors. The Darwineum is huge and gives space for them. There are two groups of Bornean orangutans and two groups of Western lowland gorillas. At the moment old silverback Assumbo is together with the breeding group which is alredy leads by the young silverback Kwame, who is still very young.
The retired gorillas don't want to go outdoors. Gorgo the old male is almost blind.

The Hill Mynahs have bred for the first time in Rostock Zoo.

Arrival of a Red Panda called JORDAN from Chomutov Zoo in Czechia.

Nach ihrer Ankunft aus dem Zoopark Chomutov in Tschechien im Mai hatte Jordan Zeit, sich hinter den Kulissen an ihr neues Zuhause und ihre Pfleger zu gewöhnen. At the start of this month 3 Kafue lechwes (Kobus leche kafuensis) were born.

Recently 43-year old male silverback Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Gorgo was euthanised, he suffered from age-related illnesses.

Are there already ground plans for this new development, which is cited as the biggest renovation / building project the Rostocker Zoo has undertaken till date.

Birth of 0.1 Roan Antelope on Dec. 18th.
She has been called ALINA.
Zoo Rostock on Instagram: "Pferdeantilope direkt auf der Historischen Huftieranlage geboren. Das weibliche Jungtier wurde „Alina“ genannt. Ihre Mutter heißt „Aika“. Pferdeantilopen leben in Afrika südlich der Sahara in Baum- und Buschsavannen sowie in offenen Wäldern. Jungtiere kommen nach einer Tragzeit von 9 Monaten zur Welt. Die Geburt findet abseits der Gruppe statt. Die Mutter bleibt einige Tage bei ihrem Jungen und kehrt dann zu ihrer Gruppe zurück. Der Nachwuchs bleibt noch einige Wochen versteckt und wird von der Mutter nur zum Säugen aufgesucht. Mit 6 Monaten sind die Jungtiere entwöhnt. Videos: Zoo Rostock/Schult"

In August a new species arrived at the zoo, namely Turkish spiny mice (Acomys cilicicus).

At the end of October the zoo received a pair of Western honey buzzards (Pernis apivorus) from Warsaw Zoo.

In October a male Roan antelope (Hippotragus equinus) was born.

In November a new species was added to the Seevogelvoliere, namely Northern lapwings (Vanellus vanellus).

In October two (twins) Large hairy armadillos (Chaetophractus villosus) were born.

In November a female Round-eared elephant shrew (Macroscelides proboscideus) arrived to accompany the already present male.

At the start of December a female Llama was born.

Im Gegensatz zu den Böcken mit ihren sichelförmigen Hörnern, sind die weiblichen Tiere hornlos. Im Alter von 4 bis 5 Monaten sind Kamerunschafe bereits geschlechtsreif. Departure of the young female Polar Bears SKADI and KAJA to Tallinn Zoo.
Zoo Rostock on Instagram: "Eisbärzwillinge verlassen Zoo Rostock - Skadi und Kaja ziehen um in den Zoo Tallinn.‍‍ Schweren Herzens verabschieden wir uns bald von unseren beiden Eisbärmädchen, die inzwischen 3 Jahre alt sind. Bisher haben sie mit Mutter Sizzel zusammengelebt, die sich fürsorglich um ihren Nachwuchs gekümmert hat. Auch in der Wildnis verlassen junge Eisbären ihre Mutter, sobald sie etwa zwei bis drei Jahre alt sind. Deshalb ist es nun an der Zeit, dass Skadi und Kaja ihren Weg alleine weitergehen. Falls ihr die beiden Besucherlieblinge nochmal erleben wollt, kommt vorbei und verabschiedet euch! Ihre Abreise nach Estland erfolgt bis spätestens Ende März.
