20 year old Pygmy Hippo Zsa Zsa gave birth to a healthy female calf on March 31st. This is the fifth Pygmy Hippo to be born at the zoo. The calf's sire is 22 year old Howie.

A Malayan Tapir called MUNAH is born two weeks ago.
ZooTampa at Lowry Park on Instagram: "We are pleased to re-introduce Munah, meaning “favored by destiny”. Munah is two weeks old and is starting to show interest in water play, which will contribute to her amazing swimming skills later in life. Stay tuned to watch Munah grow into a full-fledged Malayan tapir like her mom, Ubi! "

On July 8th, the zoo announced they rescued 2 Florida manatees which are now at their critical care center.

On August 16th, the zoo announced they moved their brown pelicans to the American flamingo exhibit due to ongoing renovations.

Great! I think the more important part of that announcement is that the manatee pools and building are starting to be renovated, which was sorely needed IMO.

The entire manatee building is closed for renovations, forcing people to turn around at the stingrays in the south and the alligators in the north. Otters are also off exhibit due to the renovations.....we can hope they are renovating that concrete exhibit while they do the manatees.
