I guess this is where to post this as it's a game about a fantasy zoo.
So what are your thoughts on the games Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon 2.
Personaly, I think Zoo Tycoon 2 has much better graphics and is more realistic then the original game but Zoo Tycoon (I had the D.S. version so I don't know how it compares to the computer game) has a much larger animal collection.
P.S.- I don't still play the games (although I still have them somewhere) I just want to know what you zoo personel think of the game as it has made casual appearances in many conversations around here.
 
Love both games, I would love ZT1 so much better if it didn't lag.

Zoo Tycoon 1:
Best:
-Has rarer species
-Has animal identification signs
-You feel more of a spark when you breed a giant panda, a tough thing to do in the game
-Have actual brachiating objects for orangutans.
-Can make guests throw up!!! (Zeta Psi):D
-The zoo maps are ginormous
-Exhibits can hold more species at a time
-Better interactive things for guests such as: Mini golf, animal theater, Japanese garden, duck pond, snake pit, dolphin rides, jet skis, and more.
-Actually have animal houses that come with different attractions in each one such as (including all the packs): Shark Tunnel, Aviary, Reptile House, Primate House, Nocturnal House, Pterodactyl Cage, Extinct Amphibian House, Extinct Crustacean House, Aquarium, maybe more.
-Asian elephants require their natural habitat, tropical rainforest.

Bad:
-Can't go into guest mode
-Depending on the computer, if you make a large zoo the game with lag every other second.
-Komodo dragons are purple
-Graphics-self explanatory even maybe if you haven't played it
-There is no gestation period
-Only 5 animals are considered endangered when some of them really aren't
-Gorillas look like aliens
-Can't see your own map
-Every enclosed area surrounded by a fence is considered an exhibit
-Mountain animals are impossible to satisfy

Zoo Tycoon 2
Good:
-Has a gestation period
-Family trees
-Many of the animals can tolerate grass terrain, something that all zoos usually do
-Graphics and animations are more accurate
-The lifespans are accurate in terms of ratio
-Has bridges, safari rides, and sky rides
-Not every enclosed fence has to be considered an exhibit
-Like in real life, another giraffe can breed with the reticulated giraffe
-Mixing species is much easier
-Can take photos from the game and save them on the computer
-Has a Touch Pool for sea cucumbers, sea stars, and horshoecrabs

Bad:
-More endangered species but not as rare
-Gibbons and orangutans can't die!!-This is why I'm not using them anymore
-Lazy animal houses: Octopus, Reptile House (Chameleon, Slider, King Cobra), Insect House (Tarantula, Hercules Beetle, Hairy Scorpion), Seahorses, Octopus, Tropical Fish (Damsel, Clownfish, Tangs), Jellyfish, and more.
-No animal identification signs
-Maps, even the largest ones, are very small, and if I want to continue a family of a species, I usually could only fit around 14 exhibits in.
-For brachiating objects, you have to use outdated looking monkey bars.
-Requires fountains, plants, and statues all over the zoo
-0 interactive things for guests expect for playgrounds
-Has very little challenge to the game
-Guests need food and a bathroom at every exhibit
-Their Zoopedia says that the largest cat is the Bengal tiger

The Gibbons and Orangutans can't die!!
In the Extinct version, if you use the fossil digging building to make stronger, healthier, happier animals, the Warrah die after about 5mins and most of the time they don't breed first. The valociraptor is always angry no matter what you do. Also, the Utahraptors are the size of T-rex and those dinosaur rescue squad people (plus robot?) are really annoying and take the fun out of the angry dino hunt mini-game. If you have the extinct animal digging pit, the guests steal the fossils half the time. Also, if quests just disappear after a certain amount of time. The days and nights are like 2 mins and it takes roughly 10mins to get all the guests to leave so closing is worthless. You only get the Quagga (and mabye other animals) if you use the fossil digging building. They keepers are annoying and useless and always plant new, small dishes instead of filling older ones. lemurs breed like rabbits (my lemur exhibit ended up being half my zoo!!). Guests panic at random times. can't satisfy all the quests ever. even with trash bins the zoo always gets litter all over. can't put the barns for large animals one space away from fence or the rhinos and elephants will escape (took me forever to figure out how they were escaping from their exhibit).

I think they should just combine the pros from both and make a Zoo Tycoon 3!!:)

Very good points. When guests are angry for zero reason, I'll punish them by putting them with the lions or tiger:D And you're right about the lemurs, at least they don't require much space. What I do if an animal takes up the last of the needed space, I set them free, this way you get conservation awards and more fame. As for the guests panicking, I hate when they do it even when the animal that "they claim is chasing them" is completely enclosed in its habitat. Lastly I think the Radical Remake is the ZT3.
 
Their ZooPedia is so outdated and wrong it's amazing. It lists Koalas as endangered and Pzrewalski's Wild Horses as least concern. considers Eastern Cougars as endangered, not extinct.

It is also pretty hard to make sky rails and safari tracks sometimes. it's extremely hard to work the elevation tool and such
 
When I can't satisfy my guests no matter what I do, I simply pick 'em up, and drop 'em into the tiger enclosure. "New Tiger Encounter Experience! Be one with the tiger as you run around screaming in its enclosure!"
I haven't played ZT2 in such a long time, but I remember how much I used to like it.

I tried to have free-roaming peacocks and lemurs once (as many zoos do) and the guests had spasms. granted the lemurs can be aggresive but the peacocks did nothing wrong!!

me too when i got my new computer I lost my addaxs download (which you can't get anymore I tried) and my hundreds of downloaded content (which actually made the game lack worse then the first one) so I just gave up. I still have all the zoo tycoon 2 expansion packs, though

This is the first I've heard of the Radical Remake. If the animals really do look like that, then this looks like a great thing to get!!!!:D

Wait, how do you get it? do you first have to have all the ZT2 games/expansions and then download it to the game and it just updates? That seems too easy, then again, that's how you get all the extra downloads. I loved the paranormal expansion pack. I never found all the expansions online before my old computer started freaking out and rejected the game.:(
 
In Zoo Tycoon 2, the animals look horrible! It looks like the Polar Bears are smiling, and the cats all look so . . . awh, it's awful! Moebelle, that's why I suggested downloading animals and plants. From my personal experience, they do not harm your computer, and make the game so much more realistic. I can't take your ZT2 zoos seriously when you have those silly-looking animals!

In my opinion, Zoo Tycoon 2 was more for children, and older ZT1 fans wanted to change that quickly. The fans have released more (AND BETTER) downloads than the game creators themselves!

Radical Remake is not Zoo Tycoon "3", hence the "remake" part. Aurora Designs set out and created a remake of all of the original Zoo Tycoon 2 animals, and the results are outstanding.

And if you didn't already know, Microsoft and Blue Fang Game's contract expired, which is why there has been no word on a possible Zoo Tycoon 3.

I agree with the way the animals look. It's absolutly horrible and their movements are so fake and have you seen them with water!!.

I had too many downloads on my game and it made my game extremely slow but, yes, the downloads are better. To download the remake, do you need to have all the original games installed first?

The radical remake animals look absolutly awesome!!:D So much better then the original ones. Anybody ever get the Paranormal Pack? I loved that one, it was my very first download (except for the Addax).

Just out of curiosity, did anyone ever change the species name to a subspecies to make it a more accurate and fun zoo/auqarium.

Not sure if all games have to be installed. Yes, the animals do look very much like the pictures shown.
 
Animals like gorillas and elephants in both games sometimes get angry for no reason, even though they are say they are happy.

Does anyone have a complete list of all the downloadable packs? I know there was a Jurassic Park, Eruopean, and Paranormal Pack. What else and what are the names?

Well there's really nothing much great things to say about each game. At this point, since they have made two games, all we can really do is say which one is better.

Easily my favorite expansions were Arabian Nights, Island Excursions, and some bird one....I know the word Avian was in the name.

Also, Cretaceous Calamity is still in development, I hear. Take a look.

This page is really outdated. They revamped the look of most of them, over 25 more animals were added. The developers put it on hold for a while to work on a new "secret" project.
 
Once you download all the mods user created animals and the radical remake Zoo tycoon 2 functions like a Zoo tycoon 3
 
It really does. 'Bout to play it now! :D

And Aurora Designs plans on remaking every animal from all of the original Zoo Tycoon 2 expansion packs, including Extinct Animals! Can't wait for them to finish! They've currently released the scimitar-horned oryx, koala, Spanish lynx and Komodo dragon from Endangered Species, and the striped hyena, Nile monitor, and ratel from African Adventure.
