Actually when you get all the Download enhancements including the Fan Made Radical Remake Zoo Tycoon 2 becomes an entirely different game. I don't see how they can improve on that especially if they try to make Kinectimals.

Not only has Radical Remake done new and realistic looking versions of all the animals that shipped with the game, they also improved the scenery and made it beautiful.

These are all the User created animals I currently have usable on my game. These are in addition to all the "factory" animals that came with the game (that are all updated and beautiful models). Zoo Tycoon 2 after investing some time and hard drive space into the user created downloads is an addicting and great looking game 8 years after it was released

Plus over 150 additional types of plants. And also including the ability to make custom building including barns, indoor enclosures and everything.

The additional files are about 7GB by themselves but they are definitely worth the time (and being free) to source. They make the game into something that is truly amazing. These actually have done something no one else had done (and only Microsoft had came close to with the base Zoo tycoon games) and that makes an engaging Zoo game.

I was expecting it to be just a silly kinect game with a Zoo Tycoon label, but it looks pretty good. The flumps move really well, much better than previous versions. And so much variety, even forest and Borneo elephants.
It's also the first Zoo Tycoon with snakes, parrots, sloths and new world monkeys so it sounds like arboreal animals will be spending an appropriate amount of time in trees.

I won't be getting an Xbone just for this though. Hopefully once the new console is selling well they'll release it for PC.

Co-Optimus - News - List of Zoo Tycoon's 101 Animals Released

I'm kind of impressed by the list there, though I would have actually liked a bit more species diversity as oppose to all of the subspecies diversity (which is still good!).

~Thylo:cool:

I'd quite like a bit more species diversity! Where are the leopards, zebras, crocodilians, cheetahs, gorillas...? And there appears to be no canids, hyaenas or Old World monkeys. Surely these are staples of any zoo?

On a positive note it's good to see some small mammals popping up. Three species of mongoose, sloths, fossa, binturong, that's not too shabby.

I'm guessing there will be downloadable content and expansion packs at some point in the future to fill in the gaps in the collection.

To me Brum it appears for this first release especially on a new platform they are limiting their models to the bare minimum. But like you said giving one Hyena, one wolf, one gorilla model would go a long way for helping the user created people do their thing. Though I fear with it being exclusively console that means that all downloads will probably be premiums unlike the past with Zoo Tycoon. Hell they've gotten so good with ZT2's updates that it is already a Zoo Tycoon 3. I mean how many games from 2004 do we play for how good they look in 2013?

No penguins or seals either.

Zoo Tycoon has always been a bit weird with what animals they choose, often they ignore staples and go for more obscure animals, and there seem to be lots of duplication.

yep Lamna hence my point how its 3 games with multiple expansions and no official Greater or Lesser Kudu.

I wonder how much of the restriction on the models has to do with the game being a new way of looking at it on a new platform that they focused on making the best looking/simple game at the beginning. If they focus on making a game that works/looks good they will draw in casual gamers then they can bring in more animal models probably for money.

One thing I noticed I watched a game play preview, why put this on XBox One if you aren't going to simulate the full experience? Why do so many console ports of popular PC franchises try to make the game a console game? In the video they have pre selected size exhibits (Ie Small Savannah) instead of free building fences/terraforming. Same thing with that stupid Jurassic Park social media game on facebook its Jurassic Park Operation Genesis expect it isn't. Gaming was at its core 10 years ago, they've made it look better but the Wii made gaming for idiots so popular they stopped taking risks. Now everything has to have a social element which Real Time Strategy and Park Sims aren't supposed to have (except for RTS multiplayer)

A review of the game: Zoo Tycoon review: animal collective | Polygon
I'm impressed that some smaller species popped up, and there is some diversity in the Antelope and Bear sections, as well as some others. But I find all the Chimpanzee, Giraffe, and Lion subspecies a bit ridiculous. Hopefully expansion packs will be released sometime, as other members have previously stated.

Like BeardsleyZooFan, I'm really liking the species list (especially the n'yalas), but I find that the subspecies for the giraffes, chimps, lions, and bears (13?!) are unnecessary.

And did anyone else notice one of the particular subspecies for rhino? I've never heard of a "Sumatran hippo rhino." :D

It's looking good so far, but I won't get an XBox One just for this game. It's not worth it, imo. Guess I'll stick to watching gameplay videos. Eh, I'm losing my interest in the Zoo Tycoon games anyway. There's only so much you can do in these games, and my imagination runs wild with these kind of things that are just impossible to replicate in Zoo Tycoon.

You must not download then.

Pfft! I have hundreds of downloads! My Zoo Tycoon 2 folder alone is over 7 GB! xD

I just have issues with the zoo sizes themselves, lack of arboreal animals (yeah, yeah, there's birds, lemurs, and monkeys - but they can't climb freely. It has to be on a climbing structure or on trees), the inability to make terrariums, indoor houses and such, and so on. More advanced custom scenery also would've been nice. Even though there's a great number of downloads you can find online, I find that even those do not meet my "needs." If I had the ability to make my own scenery, I definitely would.

But, guess I'll just stick to drawing my zoos, anyway. :p

you can find the ability to make indoor enclosures/buildings. It modifies the elevated path ways and adds walls to fences. I have zoos with function reptile houses, aviaries, etc/
