Oh, probably my bad - in 2023 zoo had, according annual report, 1 f and 1 m tiger ( Bulan?) - I don´t know if there was any change till now, there should be still one tiger. Was Indra, their last Malayan tiger?
What happened to the male Bulan (born 2017 in ZZ Praha) and arrived on breeding loan in 2019 from Praha? Same what has been the fate of their original male Kawi, who was mported from Malaysia in ???? (Lok Kawi Wildlife Park)?
@xmoose, You eluded to a document citing a new concept with Sumatran tiger, Sri Lanka leopard and Malayan sun bear.
I really wish they would include clouded leopards .... too!
Well, the Malayan tiger data stem from tracing and tracking the very small European population and what genetic representation existed and which animals where transferred from location to location.Oh, probably my bad - in 2023 zoo had, according annual report, 1 f and 1 m tiger ( Bulan?) - I don´t know if there was any change till now, there should be still one tiger.
I don´t know about plans including tigers in future, same with cloud leopards (I believed they are planned once, but I probably mistake them and ceyolenes l.) - where did you get info about these two specs?
For a zoo that for the major part of a decade + has been diddering on the abyss the investment loan from the European Investment Bank is a Total God Send! The new director and her management/projects team must be congratulated to pull this development off. It will adres some exhibits that need overhaul, allow for new presentations in place of aged/old buildings, has interesting/fascinating themes and also the new arrival/entry complex and some of factilities/energy savings+durability!Zoo announced that the city of Ústí managed to secure a loan from European investment bank, which includey money for the zoo and thus they will be able to realise following 9 projects:
- Congo rainforest - enclosures for west-african primates and other species of mammals, reptiles, fish and inverts, in place of current monkey house.
- Gibbon forest (in progress)
- Slow loris Ark - enclosure for pygmy slow loris + mouse deer and "other species", featuring an "outdoor walkthrough enclosure with reversed light-system", demonstrating Usti's in-situ efforts combined with ex-situ breeding + thematic bistro, in place of former restaurant in upper part of the zoo.
- Nocturnal Madagascar - Aye-ayes and other Malagasy mammals, reptiles and inverts, featuring an "outdoor walkthrough enclosure with reversed light-system" (Not a typo, there really is the same description, also Aye-ayes doesn’t really strike me as a species for walkthrough given how other zoos are careful with them, but let's wait and see), in the building complex of current upper entrance.
- Biodiversity around us - educational features about history of zoo(s) and about protection of species living in urban areas.
- "Welcome in the zoo" - reconstruction of the lower entrance + administration building.
- Non-potable water - reducing usage of drinkable water by collecting and recycling rainwater.
- Drinkable water - reconstruction of drinkable water network to avoid leaks and to achieve better distribution through the zoo.
- Reconstruction and modernisation of geothermal heating
