Chester Zoo Zoo Visit 13th December 09

I never thought you could see into the exhibit very well from inside it, either.

I never crawled through it myself, but always thought it was more of a photo op for parents and grandparents. There usually seemed to be someone taking a picture of their kids in one of the bubbles.

Good viewing of the marmots from the outside of the enclosure though, much better than when they were running around the west zoo's paddocks.

We have just been to Chester to find that it is closed today due to the icy conditions on the footpaths :(

Is this just for today?

I think it depends on the weather in the next few days? It would probably be worth contacting the zoo before you leave or check the zoos website. When we got there today they were only letting children in who had booked to see Santa. Maybe the zoo could start a text alert service for members giving news such as closure, changes to exhibits etc what do other people think?

That's nice to hear - a bit of Christmas spirit! Would have been awful to have taken children to see Santa, booked it to be sure of getting in and then be turned away.

Wimps!

If people are prepared to take the risk of walking around the icy paths let them.

We would have quite happily of risked it, but I suppose the zoo is thinking of terms of somebody having an accident and being sued. I wonder how much todays closure has cost the zoo

I wonder how the animals react to an empty and quiet zoo, on such a cold day would many of them be shut in anyway?

Probably as they would on Christmas day or in the short periods before and after the zoos opening hours.

Remember that old Kit Kat advert with the pandas? That's exactly what happens at the zoo when there are no visitors. The tigers strut round on full display. Lemurs swing joyously from tree to tree. Even the invisible bush dogs can be seen out on their lawns having a tea party.

I once went into the zoo on the dot of 10 on a weekday when there were about 5 other visitors. It's amazing how many animals are out and about and practically performing tricks. I reckon as soon as too many visitors get through the gate, they all go back in their sheds to sleep ;)

Would the staff go and feed and clean out the animals in the morning on Christmas day and go home and then come back to lock them up in the evenings?

They must lose a lot of money closing! I'm surprised they can really afford it.
