Hi All,
Summer has finally arrived and that means zoo visit time!
During the Summer i am hoping to visit,
- Linton Zoo
- Whipsnade Zoo
- London Zoo
- Edinburgh Zoo
- Flamingo Land
- Drayton Manor
- Chessington
I will try and get some info on the Chessington New Gorilla Enclosure when i go later in August and see whats happening there.
Any Questions from anyone i will try and answer over the course of all my visits and i am really looking forward to them 3 of which i have never visited.
I am very regular to Linton and Whipsnade so i can answer most questions you may have for these zoos - Mainly for the Cats and other carnivores and the Larger mammals :)
Regards, Enjoy your Summer everyone!

Hmm I quite fancy visiting Linton, get some good pics ;)

Linton is my home Zoo i visit it loads last visit was a few weeks ago :)
I would be very happy to answer any questions you have about it, i have put pics in the gallery too so have a look if you like :)
I will take good pics when i visit there a few times over the summer for you.

Hi Riziki

Whats happening with the tigers at Linton?

Have they still got Deja, Mirko and their daughter Katinka?

Havent been to Linton for ages! hmmmm lol we used to go loads whenever they had tiger cubs I assume there will be no more breeding due to the problems with not being pure Amur?

Have the 2 hand reared lions in the new pen (sorry cant think of their names) who had the cub I saw at Paradise Wildlife Park bred again? (sorry forgot name as well lol)

Their website is always behind with any news lol

Hi KarenZOO
Deja and Katinka are still being kept together and Mirko on his own.
As far as i know nothing has happened yet and they are waiting for a decision for what to do.
But Katinka is still there.
The lions you mention are Zuri and Safi.
Zuri is my favourite lion and he is the main reason why i visit.Im a regular as you can see!
They have bred and again and 3 cubs where born on the night of the 16th May.They are all doing well and are 2 boys and 1 girl.I saw them about 2 weeks ago and they are looking really good and are really big for their age aswell.Everything has gone great so far so fingers crossed.Safi is being a great mum and all the mothering instincts have gone to her this time,Zuri is also acting a brilliant father and is keeping away most of the time!
Their last cub Zara moved to Africa in about March/April with another Lion brought from South Africa called Bisa.Everything has gone very well with them and they are at last where they belong. :)
I will post any news on the cubs as i intend to visit them quite abit this summer.
Hope this has helped.

Aww thanks Riziki for the update thats brilliant news about the cubs. Seems Safi is following in her mothers footsteps regarding the problems rearing her 1st cub then a successful litter!

Good news about Zara to are they on a reserve or at a zoo?

Sorry for all the questions but great to have contact with a zoo we used to take the kids to loads when they were young, must visit myself very soon :)

Yeah Safi was very unlucky she had a litter last October too but it was a breach birth as one cub got stuck and suffocated 2 others. But then 2 days later one more cub was born but was taken to Paradise Wildlife Park to be with Zara but died the night after she arrived there.
Things are going very well so far :)
No worries about answering the questions its what this forums all about!

I visited Linton Zoo yesterday and have some news,
Mirko the male 'hybrid' Tiger has been castrated so no more cubs will be coming from him.Deja the female breeding Tiger has arthritus already but talking to kepers it does seem to be getting quite bad.She was born in Leningrad Zoo in November 1996.
Zuri and Saf's cubs are doing brilliant they where outside enjoying the sun and playing with their parents. :)
All the Leopards were out and Lhamo and Centurio the Snow Leopards were both resting in their own enclosure's but had access to go into each one with the other.
Hakim the male Hartmans Mountain Zebra is not 'proving' him self very well
so they are just waiting at the moment as it can take 3+ years for things to become truly settled with them.
Hope this helps, and i will post more on the other zoos i have planned to visit :)

I'm hoping to go to london zoo next week, I might go to west midlands safari park and birmingham nature centre later on, but nothing's certain.

Riziki- next time you are at Whipsnade maybe you can find out if they've fixed the 'bathing' moat in the 'Rhinos of Nepal' House yet. I heard the female rhinos wouldn't use it because they didn't like the access(too steep?) and it had been temporarily emptied.

An update on the current elephant sitation would be interesting too. Are some of them pregnant?

I will try and see what i can find out about the Greater One Horned Rhino Pool, And also see how the Elephant herd are getting on as they have had quite alot of losses recently only leaving one calf Euan.
I am hoping to visit Linton again a few times in the summer.
I am more then happy to try and answer questions at the zoos i am going to :)

Just to let you all know - I am just about to leave for Holiday in Scotland, And im really looking forward to my visit to Edinburgh Zoo.
I will take plenty off photos and will write a review if it is needed and wanted.
Cheers
