Here is an overview of some
older news that hasn't been posted.
In February female
South African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus jubatus) Ayo (*10/05/2011, Wuppertal) was send to ZooParc Overloon, this leaves Wuppertal without Cheetahs. Her former enclosure will be part of the re-organization of that part of the zoo for the expension of the elephant enclosure. Cheetahs will return to the zoo at some point.
On the 18th of February 22 year old male
Golden-headed lion tamarin (Leontopithecus chrysomelas) Jerk (*01/03/2003, Wuppertal) passed away.
In February a male
Crested partridge (Rollulus rouloul) arrived from Karlsruhe Zoo to accompany the 2 present females which moved to the Freiflughalle in January.
The
Hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) that hatched last July is a female!
In March 7 female
Lined Seahorses (Hippocampus erectus) arrived from the Naturkunde Museum Karlsruhe, this is a new species for Wuppertal!
In February a
Crested quail-dove (Geotrygon versicolor) hatched, not sure if this is a zoo first breeding for Wuppertal. The zoo has 2 breeding pairs, a second pair arrived last October.
In March male
Red ruffed lemur (Varecia rubra) Mino arrived from Mandai Wildlife Reserve. The zoo now has 1.2 red ruffed lemurs.
The
African pygmy-geese (Nettapus auritus) have moved to a larger aviary at the start of this month.
On the 3rd of April a
Grant`s zebra (Equus quagga boehmi) was born.
The EEP of the
African Lion has been split into 2, namely
Panthera leo leo and
Panthera leo melanochaita, Wuppertal will coordinate the
P. leo leo EEP. The Asiatic lions have their own EEP.
The
European ground squirrels (Spermophilus citellus) have recently waken up from hibernation.
On the 6th of April 4
Red River hogs (Potamochoerus porcus) were born.
Recently 12-year old female
Western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) Mahiri arrived from Zoo Zürich, she is a halfsister of the already present male Vimoto.
At the end of March a new species arrived at the zoo, namely a
Silvery-cheeked hornbill (Bycanistes brevis) which can be found in the Großkatzenhaus.
In March a 5-year old male
Lesser rhea (Rhea pennata) arrived from Zoo Riga to accompany the already present females.
