Zoo Wuppertal Zoo Wuppertal News

Kibo and Numbi arrived at Zoo Vienna today

Just a short note, the elephants Kibo and his Mum Numbi arrived at Zoo Vienna today. There is an article on my blog on Zoo Vienna (written in German) with a video and some photos. :)

Its good that they are keeping Kibo with his mum for now. But does anyone know why the transfer has happened?

1.) Numbi has showed agressive behaviour against the keepers.
2.) The Elefant cows at Wuppertal are pregnant again (sire: Tusker).

There are more little blue penguins left in europe than in only two collections.

Hopefully german zoos will learn someday elephants cant' and shoudn't be kept in hands on contacts. How many keepers have to be hurt or to be killed til this time, how long german elephants have to suffer under the Hands on care ?

@Pertinax
You are right, the first information I got was that the new one is supposed to be 8 years old, without a name...

Helen, the only king cheetah in Europe has died, she was born in 2000 at Nuremberg zoo, the only king cheetah, born in Europe.

That's too bad. I believe the only King Cheetah in the USA is at the Miami Metrozoo. They use it for animal demonstrations (or "shows").

Thanks, I'll look forward to it.

First the Saiga, now the King Cheetah, I hope the River Dolphin, Douc Langurs and Wombats hang on in there.

I know I'm rambling off-thread, but I'm in mourning so give me a break:)

I hate to bring the news to you, but the river dolphin is an old animal, so it's death can be expected rather soon then late ( although I really hope it will have a couple of years left).

With Bristol previously losing their Little Blues also, it makes me think perhaps they aren't suitable for keeping in European zoos...
