Zlín Zoo zoo Zlín

There are no hornbills or storks in aviaries yet. The chance to see kiwi active is almost zeroo_O

Some news I've learnt during my today's visit...

- Although the lion rescue centre is opening in June, there are already some of the rescued lions being kept off show.
- I spotted a white-faced saki youngling holding on to it's mother.
- There are some little Patagonian maras too.
- It seems like the Brazilian porcupines have left the Yucatan pavilion. Instead of them there are capuchinbirds and aracaris.
- There are at least three great barbets kept off show.
- There are plans on opening a new Indian restaurant next year in the place of the former smoking area near the gaur exhibit.
- I could not spot any of the spotted wood owls and the sign from their aviary has disappeared too. Instead of them there is a pair of some fowl, but both of the birds were very shy, so I didn't see them properly...

And I have a question - does anyone know where the bear born in 2022 currently is? Is he still in the zoo? I haven't seen him since September.

I was at the zoo 3 days ago and I saw 3 bears (1 kept alone and 2 together, rotating in the indoor and outdoor exhibits) hope this helps.

The zoo posted about the planned exhibit for white rhinos and giraffes, which is going to take part in the Karibuni complex. The building with indoor enclosures for both species is going to be built next to the elephant house. The smaller one of the outdoor enclosures is going to be 1500 m² and it will be connected to a bigger one that's gonna be 1,2 hectares big. This project will cost around 65 000 000 CZK (+- 2 605 000 €).

You can see kiwi regularly about 3 pm something (it was about 3:20 when I saw it). It gets ´midnight snack´, and you can see it stirring in its burrow on camera some time before keeper arrives. After eating, it walked a little about the exhibit, not paying attention to people around, but retreated back to the burrow when new people arrived.

According to signage in Kerala aviary, there should be some parrots and corvids present (I do not remember the exact species). Last year, zookeeper told me that they had problems with training them to shift into the backstage of the exhibit, but that they would be on show this year. I would like to ask someone who was in Zlín lately, if they are on show currently. Thank you.

Contrary to what other feels like, I would hazard a guess that is more of a feathery news
