Please welcome, Sugar, our Southern Belle of the Swamps! Sugar is a 4-year old, female albino alligator on loan from St. Augustine Alligator Farm in Florida. She is on exhibit at ZooAmerica now through the end of the year.

Well I thought I'd make the first ZooAmerica news thread. Probably shouldn't make it just 2013 as we're almost half way through the year and I only have one bit of news for you but whatever.
Seems the zoo has a new Canada Lynx:

A 1 year old Ringtail named Acacia from The Living Desert is now on exhibit. She and Rambo (the current male) are an excellent genetic pair, so the zoo hopes they will breed.
Betty, a 2 1/2 month old albino Striped Skunk, has now made her public debut as part of the Education Department.

In addition to Betty the albino Striped Skunk, a "normal" Striped Skunk of similar age (they might even be sisters) has also made her debut as an animal ambassador.
The Common Snapping Turtle exhibit was recently renovated to look more like a Southern deck overlooking a swamp.

Alot of updates on there facebook page.
1)Recently they modified the Mountain Lion exhibit to better suit the aging male.
2)Got a new Male River Otter to a pair up with the female they have.
3)They have a new Spotted Skunk on exhibit in the nocturnal hall of the Great Southwest building.
4)Thick Billed Parrot hatched recently.
5) New Alligator Snapping Turtle is on exhibit.
6)New Black Footed Ferret is on exhibit
7) A Gila Monster Hatched Recently.
8)There's a new 2 year old Pronghorn from the Assiniboine Park Zoo on exhibit with the Sandhill Cranes.

What? Did they flatten the Mountain Lion enclosure?
Good to see they've added another animal to that huge ex-bison enclosure. They should have just gotten more bison, though.

They added a ramp and steps so the aging Cougar, Stanley, could access his night quarters easier.
Hoover, a male Snowy Owl, died on February 23rd.
Stanley, the male Cougar, passed away on July 3rd.
An orphaned male Cougar cub has just arrived from Washington. He will be taken care of in the Animal Health Building for a while.

According to their website they have 2 females, Izzy and Sage, along with the 4 fawns last year - Izzy's 2 (Callum and Kathy) and Sage's 2 (Amy and Meghan). Do they now just have Sage and the 4 fawns, then?
