Ha that's cool. I was going to get a male and call him Rick but I liked her too much lol. I guess I could still call her that though...
 
She's sat on my keyboard right now and I have to be honest, Rosie is cool :cool:

very true , i never named mine , although my wife and son named the royal python i once kept chiquito which mean small one in spanish, but eventually that name became ridiculous after the snake grew to a considerable large size , i prefer not to name pets i dont know why though

Mammals are usually named here (if not by me, then my girlfriend does it)
but reptiles hardly ever.

yeah, my first iguanas when I was 15.

and my geochelone sulcata is named Boris. a name my sister came up with.
funny enough, she (it's a female) actually responds to the name.
 
First of all... What are Zoo Beaters? Did this forum used to be called ZooBeat?

Secondly, I have quite boring pets in comparison to some of you! I have a lovely, old, black and white cat called Libby and very young Ginger Tabby called Oscar and 11 small fish (mostly Danios).

1 Dumeril's monitor
1 hatchling blue tegu

I just love varanids. I require a lot of self control avoiding some of the larger, less appropriate species. We'll see how that plays out once a buy a house in a couple of months. My fiance is looking for the usual amenities, I'm looking for a herp room big enough for a 12x4 cage for a blackthroat monitor. Priorites, priorities.
 
Im afraid all i have is one very wimpy cat! ;)
Parents (espicially mum) are not keen on having exotic pets!

Those of you that have made a similar comment to the one above, I can understand your parents and think they are smarter than us.
Now in retirement we have Macaws that will out live us and our daughter who bought them from where she was working because they no longer wanted birds does not have a suitable home for them. I think in the future she will have an aviary but that takes space so we will see.
We love the birds but with our 7 cats as well we can't go away unless she comes to stay. Good job we are not globe trotters. lol:)

I have a large assortment of pets:

2 dogs (just ordinary mutts from the local animal shelter)

2 bearded dragons

2 savannah monitors

2 col. black and white tegus

1 green iguana

1 leopard gecko

1 house gecko

4 ball pythons

2 adult col. redtailed boas

2 salmon boa

2 nic. boas

2 baby redtailed boas

2 adult rainbow boas

1 hogg island boa baby

1 we don't know what breed but she's a pretty sand and black boa

32 red eared slider turtles (3 adults and surprise hatchlings last year, thank goodness for the turltle pond)

22 koi in the koi pond

and I have no idea how many fish tanks are in my house right now, I think 2 salt and 3 freshwater.

All of our herps have been placed with us from our vet as a rescue or rehomed to us by our local animal shelter. This summers new project is building on to our house. We are adding a 24 foot by 40 foot addition, so that we will have more room for rescues.
 
I just recently adopted a guinea pig from the local animal shelter. So now I have 2.2 cats and 1.0 guinea pig!
 
At the moment I have 0.1 Guinea pig. Untill recently have kept many batches of fancy goldfish but have all died. I make sure that I feed them right. add the right amount of Clorout to the water to make sure there are no harmful chemicals in the water and also have an airator. My grandma says that she had a goldfish that she kept in filthy green water with no airator or filter and it lived for many years. Are goldfish these days more sensitive?

all aquariumfish are more sensible than 20-30 years ago.
about 90% are bred (mostly in asia) and are kept in a "clinical" environment (standard use of malachyte green, methilyn blue, etc etc)

but that's not necessary a reason for fish to die. I would guess you're doing something wrong. but what, I cannot tell without actually seeing your tank/bowl. some standard mistakes: amount of feedings, amount of food per feeding is to much. not enough water surface (common mistake in fishbowls), not enough waterchanges or to much water being changed at 1 time, ...

the list is endless.

This is my Tank. It is 35 litres.
 
How many goldfish (and of what size) do you keep in there?
the black thing on the right, is that an internal filter or just a pump?
if it's a filter, how often do you clean it? and how?
how often do you do waterchanges? and how much at a time?
