a few new year-birds in the last two mornings after the gym:

31) Weka Gallirallus australis
32) Waxeye (Silvereye) Zosterops lateralis
33) Australasian harrier Circus approximans
34) Welcome swallow Hirundo neoxena
35) Pukeko (Purple gallinule) Porphyrio porphyrio

I'm still trailing you! I have had a succesful few days in the lower North Island, seeing 11 new species for the year, taking my total to 33.

23 Pukeko Porphyrio porphyrio melanotus
24 Mute Swan Cygnus olor
25 Australasian Coot Fulica atra australis
26 North Island Kaka Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis
27 Rifleman Acanthisitta chloris
28 Feral Pigeon Columba livia
29 NZ Falcon Falco novaeseelandiae
30 NZ Fantail Rhipidura fuliginosa
31 Variable Oystercatcher Haematopus unicolor
32 Australian Magpie Gymnorhina tibicen
33 Masked Lapwing Vanellus miles

The NZ Falcon is my first wild 'lifer' of the year, it flew overhead and landed in a nearby tree in Wilton's Bush in Wellington City.

There was also a rook at Staglands, which was feeding in a paddock, but I don't think I can count this as it was presumably a park escapee rather than one from the Wairarapa population.

there used to be a colony of wild rooks at Staglands. I don't know if that is still the case though.

They used to have caged rooks, but apparently they were good escapers. There were no cages or signs for rooks anywhere in the park yesterday.

I added a few more incidentals over the past few days to bring my total to 95.
