ZooChat Big Year 2013

there are some at the Irkutsk Aquarium on the other side of the lake (where I'm not going), at Leipzig Zoo (where I'm not going), and I *think* in an Aquarium in Japan where I *may* be going.

But seeing them in the wild is what I was interested in; seeing them in a zoo is not the same thing at all.

Well I hope you go.

I know it's not the same, but it's better than nothing, and especially better than a dead specimen!

I would have loved to see Maleos in the wild, but I can't so seeing them at Bronx is the next best thing. I would have loved to see Sumatran Rhinos in the wild, but I can't so seeing them at Cincinnati is the next best thing. I would have loved to see a Bay Duiker in the wild, but I can't so seeing them at Lowry Park is the next best thing. And so on and so forth.

That looks to be in the middle of nowhere, according to the map. What on earth were you doing there?

Thats what I say about going to cities.

Looking at wildlife, bushwalking cooking meals in the camp oven in the fire and killing foxes, cats, goats and pigs.

I have some photos in the galery

What are you folks' thoughts on using bird calls to try to attract birds?

I have an app with the calls of all Australian birds, and I played a few calls in the zoo recently as a test. The birds immediately came to the fence, and I am thinking that this could work in the wild if I get a Bluetooth wireless speaker. What's the ethics around using playback?
