Green Woodpecker still frustratingly only seen in Germany!

I suppose I have to get my triumphs over you where I can; seen that taxon in both Germany and the UK thus far this year.

I suppose I have to get my triumphs over you where I can; seen that taxon in both Germany and the UK thus far this year.

S'alright - I'll be going to Whipsnade at some point and can usually find one there if I get stuck. :D

Managed an early trip to Anglesey today before the rain set in.

192. Razorbill
193. Manx Shearwater
194. Chough
195. Rock Pipit
196. Black Guillemot

Off to chesterfield now, hopefully Nottinghamshire will give me a few more.

Didn't get anything in Nottinghamshire other that good views of Turtle Doves.
Managed to get a few on the way home though including my fourth life tick this year.

197. White Wagtail
198. Little Bittern
199. Black-necked Grebe

So today I went to the San Bernardino mountains by my house to look for Black Swifts, American Dippers, and other mountain species. I had the possibility of getting around 20 species, but I only got 7...

the yellow-rumped warbler is American -- is that a fairly common vagrant or a real rarity?

It's a real rarity especially on mainland, they usually turn up on the Scilly Isles or Shetland. Having said that it's probably the third commonest american warbler after Red-eyed Vireo and Blackpoll Warbler.

Additions from a day trip to Norfolk (Strumpshaw Fen and Cley Marshes) today:

(NB: bird numbering has dropped back one as after reviewing the photo I've deducted White-necked Jacobin - think this was a mis-ID)

254. Cetti's Warbler - Cettia cetti
255. Black-tailed Godwit - Limosa limosa
256. Eurasian Spoonbill - Platalea leucorodia
257. Common Ringed Plover - Charadrius hiaticula
258. Little Tern - Sternula albifrons

24. Bank Vole - Myodes glareolus
25. Chinese Water Deer - Hydropotes inermis

I've also added two extras this weekend to my UK list that are already on the main list - Green Woodpecker (at Whipsnade as predicted!) and Sandwich Tern, so the UK-only total is now 120. Other nice things in Norfolk included Swallowtail butterfly (Papilio machaon britannicus), sunbathing Smooth Newts, baby pike, another really good view of a Sedge Warbler, and lots of avocets. We also heard Reed Warblers and Common Cuckoos but saw neither.

Birds:

76. Eurasian oystercatcher
77. Common pochard
78. Common cuckoo
79. Bar-tailed godwit

Mammals:

15. Wood mouse

190. Spangled Drongo

My previous highest year list was in 2009 with 534 birds and I have now passed that. My short-term aim is 550 which is only 12 birds away, so that's easy. I'm wondering if I can get to 600 for the year which is perfectly possible (only 62 birds in the next 7 months).

My highest mammal year list is 76 and I am currently on 70, so that may be beaten this year as well.

Yesterday I went searching for a Gray Catbird that had been found about 20 mins from my house. I had no luck, but I did get five new birds.

208. Green Heron
209. Willow Flycatcher
210. Swainson's Thrush
211. Great Horned Owl
212. Barn Owl

First of all, I'm removing one from my list, the Red-breasted Sapsucker. I had a quick view of the bird as it flew away and now I'm starting to doubt what I actually saw. So I'm down to 211.

Today I decided to go look for an Eastern Kingbird that was found yesterday about 40 miles from my house. This is another unusual bird for Southern California so I had to go look for it and I succeeded!

212. Eastern Kingbird
213. Blue Grosbeak
