I also have two life-lists one for captive and one for wild. The captive one doesn't get much of a workout these days.

:p

Best thing about listing is that it at the lister's descretion. No rules. List them however you want. Just enjoy it, that should be the only rule.

Amen to that.

I do keep a yearly 'captive+wild' mammal taxa count, but not for other groups - I find that a) I have enough lists to update as it is and b) the pressure to see *everything* every time takes some of the fun out of the zoo visits, so I limit it to mammals and anything new for all-time, otherwise I see what I see. :)

Not been out and about much lately, but got some additions over the last few weeks:

101. Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea)
102. Hooded Crow (Corvus cornix)
103. Eurasian Nuthatch (Sitta europaea)
104. Common Crane (Grus grus)
105. Black Redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros)

13. Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus)
14. Wood Mouse (Apodemus sylvaticus)
15. Bank Vole (Myodes glareolus)
16. Striped Field Mouse (Apodemus agrarius)

06. Sand Lizard (Lacerta agilis)

Another life tick today thanks to a long staying Cornish bird and another year tick thanks to a reintroduction programme.

215. Hudsonian Whimbrel
216. Cirl Bunting

Another couple of hours seawatching today gave me one more year tick

217. Sooty Shearwater

576) Greater Black-backed Gull
577) Common Redshank
578) Eurasian Curlew

579) Eurasian Oysercatcher
580) Ruddy Turnstone
581) Tree Pipit
582) Dartford Warbler

Though the warbler was not a lifer, it was my second ever sighting, and my first sighting was a rather poor one. Though today I saw a pair showing very nicely and singing loudly. Fantastic Birds.

68. Oribi
69. Swaynes
Hartebeest
70. Bright's gazelle
71. Gelada ssp. obscurus
72. Nile grass rat

Bale green monkey was mammal species 200 in the wild for me :)

Currently in Oromiya region but because of all the social unrest (protests against government with military killing people), I am moving out and will go to Afar soon. In this region there are not too many new birds (and Gerenuks :) ) to be seen, but in Afar there still are.

First birds from Afar:

437. Striolated bunting

438. Yellow-bellied barbet
439. Red-fronted warbler
440. European roller

It's been a while since I updated my list - no new birds but do have two new mammals, two fish, a dragonfly and three butterflies (including one I forgot to list from earlier in the year) :

19. Common noctule bat Nyctalus noctula
20. Fallow deer Dama dama

8. European perch Perca fluviatilis
9. European eel Anguilla anguilla (Cr)

11. Red admiral butterfly Vanessa atalanta
14. Small skipper butterfly Thymelicus sylvestris
15. Comma butterfly Polygonia c-album

10. Emperor dragonfly Anax imperator

Got back from a week in Norfolk - because of the time of year there was little in the way of new birds, but did still manage to add two new species together with one mammal, one amphibian, two butterflies and one dragonfly:

140. Eurasian spoonbill Platalea leucorodia
141. Little stint Calidris minuta

21. Chinese water deer Hydropotes inermis (Vu)

3. Common toad Bufo bufo

16. Painted lady butterfly Vanessa cardui
17. Wall butterfly Lasiommata megera

11. Common darter dragonfly Sympetrum striolatum

I walked home through the park tonight, looking out for Little Owls, but only saw a possum.

3) Common brush-tailed possum Trichosurus vulpecula

First birds from Afar:

437. Striolated bunting

438. Yellow-bellied barbet
439. Red-fronted warbler
440. European roller

I have to remove the European roller from the list, as the birds I have seen here are Abyssinian rollers that lost their tail streamers.... Real European rollers should arrive in the coming month....

440. African palm swift

Somehow this species was still missing from my year list...

Finally another update...

Seen at Seahouses Harbour (30/7/2016):

89. Common Eider Somateria mollissima
90. Sand Marten Riparia riparia

All from a walk around Lindisfarne (1/8/2016), I also have a bird I'm yet to identify (if I get too stuck I will upload a picture):

91. Common Redshank Tringa totanus
92. Goosander Mergus merganser
93. European Golden Plover Pluvialis apricaria

7. Grey Seal Halichoerus grypus

One from Beadnell (3/8/2016):

94. Common Ringed Plover Charadrius hiaticula

One from a reservoir somewhere in Northumberland (not a planned trip to it, I just happened to be passing; 6/8/2016):

95. Common Tern Sterna hirundo

A bird I expected to see sooner. From Sutton Bank (14/8/2016):

96. Yellowhammer Emberiza citrinella

15/8/2016
235. little lorikeet
236. spotted pardalote ( heard then a hundred times this year but today I finally saw one. I'm a bird watcher, not a bird listener.)
237. noisy friarbird
