Yesterday I added 2 bird species by braving wind and hail on an exposed moorland.

Today I added 2 bird species by going for Sunday lunch at my parents' house.

Ornithology is a fickle mistress.

90. Eurasian Siskin - Spinus spinus
91. Greater Spotted Woodpecker - Dendrocopos major

39. Mistle Thrush Turdus viscivorus 30.1.2016

It took me much longer than I expected to see them, as they are very common in York. I still haven't seen any Pied Wagtails, which is unexpected as I was in one of the best places in the UK to see them on Saturday!

There seems to be a smaller field than previous years.

:p

I think I've seen this species a couple of times already this year, this is my first definite sighting:

40. Greater Black-backed Gull Larus marinus

I've now seen 40 birds so far this year, and as I've only been out (properly) birding once, I think I'm doing well for myself (even if there are people who have already passed 100).

well it's only February. Some people may have not added sightings yet.

From last year the missing participants are mstickmanp, zooboy28, nanoboy, Hevden, vogelcommando, BeardsleyZooFan, adrian1963, Average Walrus, and Javan Rhino.

At least the first four of those will surely join in this year.

A few more additions to add from the weekend:

104. Scaup (Aythya marila)
105. Brambling (Fringilla montifringilla)
106. Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula)

You can expect a distinct correlation from myself and Maguari next weekend as we're heading to the highlands ...

I will start this month hopefully, but still finishing off my 2015 list at the moment!

Indeed - fingers crossed for Caledonian avian goodness!
