Are you sure about your reticulated giraffes in Nairobi NP, I believe that reticulated does not occur in that area (to wet and to far south-west, the border between Masai and reticulated giraffes is the Garissa river in E Kenya) and I have always only seen masai giraffe around Nairobi...

I was told reticulated by my safari guide (and I was surprised so I did double check with him) but comparing my pictures of them to illustrations of the different subspecies, they were indeed Maasai and my guide was not correct. I will edit the original post.

Also a couple more birds (one missed off, one newly IDed)

240) Rufous Sparrow
241) Yellow-rumped Seedeater

At last! Two birds (I'm not including the Gull in this intro of sorts) I should have seen earlier in the year! Neither were glamorous sightings, only from a car/ at a motorway service station :p. All from 7/2/2016.

41. Common Buzzard Buteo buteo
42. Pied Wagtail Motacilla alba
43. Lesser Black-backed Gull Larus fuscus

I headed across to RSPB Blacktoft Sands, and got my first lifer for the year; but still no Grey Heron.

Back from Scotland with a very good haul of new species. The obvious omission is Capercaillie which have been very thin on the ground this year (our guide had only had two sightings). Expect a very similar list from Maguari in the near future!

And so it arrives!

Finally back home (I had an extra few days away due to attending a Uni reunion in Bangor, which allowed a decent burst of Welsh birding as well) - updated list as follows, with many gaps in my British birding record filled in!

True. The only true coyote I've seen was in Yellowtone when it was very close to night and waaaay in the distance I saw 4 wolves chasing a speck which my guide said was a coyote:p I did once get fairly close to a coywolf at midnight (In a car, that is.)

A couple of things that I have managed to ID:

36) Wahlberg's Epauletted Fruit Bat
38) Ochre Bush Squirrel (just judging by the distribution on these, and I *think* they're the only tree squirrels in Nairobi. I have uploaded some pictures if anyone wants to confirm)
so, are you on 38 mammals, or 37?

well it's only February. Some people may have not added sightings yet.

From last year the missing participants are mstickmanp, zooboy28, nanoboy, Hevden, vogelcommando, BeardsleyZooFan, adrian1963, Average Walrus, and Javan Rhino.

At least the first four of those will surely join in this year.

I will join in just need to see something first. Had a busy start to the year with the birth of my son but my first birding trip should be this weekend, I've got alot of catching up to do although I'm not expecting anything like the last couple of years. Finally reaching 400 will do me although how the British list is looking at taxonomic changes I might do it more than once or maybe even get to 400 then back to the 390's until next year!
