A train journey got me some nice views of this lovely species:

4. Brown Hare Lepus europaeus

A stroll around the sea front at Scarborough in sleet, snow and rain got me a two birds:

61. Ruddy Turnstone Arenaria interpres

A climb up a big, muddy, near vertical hill in the Yorkshire Dales, got me another two for the year:

63. Eurasian Curlew Numenius arquata
64. Red Grouse Lagopus (lagopus) scotica

A third visit to Shut Heath Wood this year allowed me to see one new bird for the year, with the added bonus of hearing a lesser spotted woodpecker calling - the closest I have got to seeing one yet.

102. Eurasian treecreeper Certhia familiaris

Yesterday evening I saw a new bird flying past the house, quite low over the garden:

103. Tawny owl Strix aluco

Also I was able to start my second insect list for the year:

1. Brimstone butterfly Gonepteryx rhamni

I also managed to add a new butterfly for the year:

2. Large white butterfly Pieris brassicae
