Yes, Blue Wings and Orange bellies are fairly similar but I am sure I saw a small group of Orange bellied parrots because the birds that I saw seemed to have the distinctive bright orange coloration on their bellies.
Orange-bellied Parrots aren’t the only Neophema species to have orange bellies.
Blue-winged Parrots can have an orange central belly.

I thought I’d join in. I don’t think this list will grow much past this, due to a pretty busy year (study and the commencement of my placement), and no plans for travelling. I’ll probably just spend most of the year reading other Zoochatter’s lists in awe (or more like envy:p).

Where did you see Fox Squirrel in California? Or was that back on the East coast?
Guessing you're in Southern Cal for Western Tanager in January?

I'm really bad at identifying wild animals. For example, today I've probably seen 7 to 8 avians, yet I was only able to correctly identify 4.

I don't think there's anyone that can identify every single bird they see. The struggle for identification is simply part of birding. Good optics can be a game-changer though.

There is/was at least one introduced population of Fox Squirrel in California, in the San Francisco Bay area (I saw a wild Fox Squirrel in Oakland Zoo back in 1998).

Fairly slow start to the year (especially after getting over 80 birds the day before), but I am going to try for the eastern yellow wagtail again tomorrow so that should come with some other nice species.

Where did you see Fox Squirrel in California? Or was that back on the East coast?
Guessing you're in Southern Cal for Western Tanager in January?

Yes, Southern California. And I saw the fox squirrels here, they were introduced into the Los Angeles area and have largely displaced the native western gray squirrel. That species can still be seen in Griffith Park among other places, but in the urban environment fox squirrels are standard fare.
