ZooChat Big Year 2020

Went just across the border in the Netherlands to see my first ever wintering Richard's pipit, and picked up some other quality stuff on the way! This is the first time I've gotten 100 in January. :D

BIRDS:
94) Common redshank, Tringa totanus
95) Common pheasant, Phasianus colchicus
96) Ruddy turnstone, Arenaria interpres
97) Dunlin, Calidris alpina
98) Richard's pipit, Anthus richardi
99) European golden plover, Pluvialis apricaria
100) Jack snipe, Lymnocryptes minimus
101) Little egret, Egretta garzetta

MAMMALS:
1) Eurasian red squirrel, Sciurus vulgaris

It would be really good if people could mention in their posts where they saw the animals they see, especially if it was somewhere different or special. It would help others plan their own wildlife watching. Just a personal suggestion from me.
I probably won't do that initially but if there are any species you want to know about in particular just ask.

Blairgowrie pier at night.

Birds

53. White Throated Needletail

Fish

5. Tommy Ruff/Australian Herring
Are you fishing, watching others fish or noting them in the water?

We were fishing but the only fish we caught were the tommy ruff and even then I could still see them in the water. The others were just noted down

Where did you see a Harlequin Duck?

That's one of my top North American birds.
It was at Tenney Park in Madison, Wisconsin. It's a vagrant that has been sticking around for the past couple weeks. Unfortunately a female (so no crazy plumage) but still a wonderful bird.
