how rare is elegant tern in the uk. i now that is rare in europe aside from the par that bread in spain a few years ago

There have been about 7 records, all since 2002; it has been a controversial species only added to the list in 2017 or so, when genetic analysis allowed 3 of the European records to be identified as pure individuals, not hybrids. This individual is showing at a colony which has also hosted Sooty and Bridled Terns in the past; it has now been present for 9 days....

At Moonlit, an invertebrate from earlier in the year.

94. sp. longhorn beetle Ancita marginicollis (new Family)

After nearly three months of high COVID levels, lockdown has been finally lifted in my city, so I went to the botanical gardens for birding.
Birds
44. Painted Stork Mycteria leucocephala
45. Grey Heron Ardea cinerea
46. Eurasian Moorhen Gallinula chloropus
47. Oriental Darter Anhinga melanogaster
48. Spot-billed Pelican Pelecanus philippensis
49. Black-crowned Night Heron Nycticorax nycticorax

Maybe a month back, went to my local creek at around 11 and managed to spot some banded kokopus. Also went on a 2 day hiking/camping thing at Mahurangi Regional Park, where I got a few birds which I wouldn't have been able to see normally. Didn't get that good of a view on the harrier or the heron, but it was enough for an id. And still quite nice as I haven't seen them since maybe when I was 7? Got a really nice view on a little shag preening itself on a dead stump, and got a good look of a spotted dove, which I've almost definitely seen earlier this year.

Birds
26. Swamp Harrier (Circus approximans)
27. Reef Heron (Egretta sacra)
28. Little Shag (Microcarbo melanoleucos)
29. Spotted Dove (Spilopelia chinensis)

Fish
1. Banded Kokopu (Galaxias fasciatus)
Saw a small flock of these in Botany Town Central, as they were flushed from the bushes next to a road.

Birds
30. European Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis)
