A general update from the past couple of months. The birds have largely been coming in as bits and pieces. The Topknot Pigeons have been everywhere in huge flocks as part of their local migration. They could be easily confused as Feral Pigeons from a distance but with binoculars they are clearly distinguishable. The grounds of Australia Zoo have produced some interesting species as well like a Forest Kingfisher with the lemurs, Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos near the rhinos and a Little Wattlebird in the koala walkthrough. In terms of inverts, highlights have included the mole cricket and my first assassin bug.

Went back through my list; turns out I've listed Greenfinches twice so my score before today was 82.
Had an absolutely lovely day at Arundel Wetland Centre today however, which boosts both my Big Year, Life list and captive waterfowl totals considerably. I reckon I'll have to make a review somewhere tonight as it was a very enjoyable trip and one which put me ever closer to my target. The place is a hotspot for chiffchaffs, reed warblers, sedge warblers, so those were fairly easy to hear (though less easy to spot) around the centre. I think I may have missed the breeding kingfishers by a matter of days, so not sure if I'll see one at all this year but keeping fingers crossed.

Went on a quick day trip to the Isle of Sheppey for non-birding reasons but still got a handful of additions, including a fairly pleasant lifer. I might return later this year to visit Elmley Reserve as it appears to be a very good birding spot in a moderately accessible area from London.

No, unfortunately, no Piping plovers seen. I definitely scoured the shoreline for them, but all I found was a Killdeer and all the gulls and terns.
