Time for a messy catch-up post. :D

It's that time again. I wish I could claim this list was the result of a single particularly bonkers wildlife day but, no, it's basically the result of all my little excursions in the month or so since returning from Bavaria and Austria.

Mammals:
24. Soprano Pipistrelle - Pipistrellus pygmaeus
25. Common Bottlenose Dolphin - Tursiops truncatus

Birds:
179. Western Cattle Egret - Ardea ibis
180. European Nightjar - Caprimulgus europaeus
181. Ring-necked Duck - Aythya collaris
182. Manx Shearwater - Puffinus puffinus

(UK: 175)

Fishes:
7. Common Roach - Rutilus rutilus
8. European Perch - Perca fluviatilis

Invertebrates:
52. Seven-spot Ladybird - Coccinella septempunctata
53. Gatekeeper - Puronia tithonius
54. Silver-washed Fritillary - Argynnis paphia
55. Holly Blue - Celastrina argiolus
56. Beadlet Anemone - Actinia equina
57. Green Shore Crab - Carcinus maenas

To address the stories behind the tetrapods:

The cattle egret was a result of wanting a quick run out with a likely bird addition a lazy Sunday so I headed out to Idle Washlands where cattle egret is a decent bet these days.

A return trip to Budby Heath allowed me to upgrade nightjar from heard to very much seen - several visible birds in the end and decent numbers churring and calling. Soprano Pip was also from this evening out.

An eclipse drake Ring-necked Duck appeared on a local reservoir this week and was good enough to hang around until Friday evening when I had chance to run up there.

And finally, having been very much stuck close to home in the intervening weeks I decided yesterday to head up to the Yorkshire coast for a seawatch day. Lots and lots of seals and birds about, including good numbers of fulmars and puffins on the water at Flamborough, but just one new bird species for the year right at the end of the day with a Manx Shearwater flypast. I'd long ago entered bonus territory though because an hour into the business of the day I'd had a nice close pass from a small group of bottlenose dolphins at Long Nab. This was the unofficial target species for the day as there had been good sightings on this stretch of coast recently and I hadn't seen a bottlenose in the UK since childhood - so basically the day could do no wrong after that..! :D
